Hello,

try the steps below. Its from PlayStation Forum:

1. Turn off Playstation®3.
2. Hold the power button down; the system will turn on and turn off once again.
3. Once the System has been shutdown, re-press you finger until you hear 2 consecutive beeps
4. When you hear the 2 beeps take finger off power button.
5. You will be prompted to plug in your controller via USB and then hit the PS button
6. The Recovery menu will pop up.

The current Recovery Menu supports:
• Restart System: Restarts the PLAYSTATION®3 System.
• Restore Default Settings: Reset all system settings back to default.
• Restore File System: Checks for corrupt/missing system files.
• Rebuild Database: Rebuilds the OS for the PLAYSTATION®3.
• Restore PS3 System: Fresh restore; Deletes everything and starts from Scratch.
• System Update: Update the PLAYSTATION®3 System

If the above steps still does not solve the problem, then I think will have to update your Ps3.

Update your PS3 (in the settings menu the 1st option).

Go on the internet browser on the PS3 then go on the menu press triangle then on one of them there are delete cookies and the delete the others as well as cookies.

You could also try this as well: put the PS3 on then press the eject button (with no disc in) then hold it and switch the PS3 off at the back with your finger on the eject button still holding it, then put it back on and the fan test should be working this may cool it down. It might be over heating.

If after trying the above options and it still does not solve the problem, then maybe the lens is weak and that's why it cannot read any disc.

But if your problem is not still solved, then maybe you should call sony for further assistance.

Good luck.

I was doing a system update and it stops at 99% I called sony we tried to get it in safe mode but when it starts back up it starts downloading update again and it freezes at 99

you called sony and they let you off the phone with no solution, I would try it on another network somewhere to see if the problem re-occured. If it did I would not let them off the phone until we reached some form of resolution.

I attempted to update the system from a game and now it's stuck. when i turn it off its just starts the update again and every time it gets stuck on 99% and it just stops. i tried getting to the restore...

If the power button hold doesn't work...try this...,
Take the clip out that holds the drive. Take the screw out but leave the drive inside.
When the update begins, pull your drive out. You will get an error message and it tells you to restart your system to try again. Instead, let the time run out, and your screen will go blank for about 30 seconds until it starts back up telling you that you need to reformat the drive. (If you don't get this message after 30 secs the first time, YOU HAVE TO REPEAT IT till it does. Then put your drive back in again making sure your controller is plugged in (wired in with USB) and press the PS3 button on the controller. It will then ask you to either press start and select at same time OR PS3 Button PRESS START and SELECT. Do not agree to any user agreements!! Make sure you hit cancel and it will reset to the startup screen.
* Just wondering....did you recently open your ps3?

Hello i am trying to update my ps3 and it gets to 99% and jamms i try turning it off and then back on but it just happens again , i also tryed to put it into safe mode but it does not go into safe mode it...

First of all turning off your Playstation while it was updating was a bad idea because it might run part of the installation. Second the last 1% of the download usually takes the longest time because this is where your system installs the software it has downloaded. My guess is that it wasn't jammed and was still installing.

Download freeze

Is this when you try a second and third time to download the same movie? Try a different one. Update to version 2.2 (came out last night). It has upgraded reliability for the internet. Hopefully that helps. Good luck!!
