It could be either of two things.

1. AF motor in lens died. Try a different lens and see if it works.

2. AF module in camera dead. This requires repair shop to install a new module.

Before you do either of the above, put in new batteries and check the setting of the AF/ MF switch on the lens itself.

Auto focus confirmation little green dot is blinking

Usually that means it cannot grab focus. That can occur for numerous reasons such as:
  • Subject does not have a defined contrast (all one shade of color).
  • Too close for the lens to work, each lens has its own limit on close focus.
More information from you will greatly help those that want to assist you.
Cordially,

Just set from 400 t0 800 then back and it will not work on auto. Will work on manuel

You cannot change ISO values in auto mode, you can change it only in creative modes and in manual mode.

My pics on my Canon rebel eos looked clear on my camera but when downloaded to the computer they are bluury. Lanscape photos are fine but wildlife is blurred.

First of all this is a digital camera, not a 35mm film camera, but it is the same fix... You need to use a faster shutter speed for your wildlife pictures. Or use a tripod, or both. The small screen on the camera is not big enough to tell if a photo is really sharp. Also check the way you have your autofocus set up, or focus manually to test a few closer shots. It may be that the auto focus is set to focus on a part of the picture which is not the bit you are interested in. There should be some indicators in the viewfinder to tell you where in the frame the camera is picking out to auto focus onto. Blurry can only be either out of focus or shake. (It could be both of course!)

I have a canon eos rebel and started getting the msg "this function not selectable in the current shooting mode" when using the auto settings. I can't figure out why?

The auto setting is just that, the camera selects all functions. What you are most likely attempting to do is change one of the auto settings. If you want some control of the camera functions turn the dial to a more user input friendly setting such as "P" for program. It sounds like to me as if you have the camera set on the green rectangular box. If you do the camera has total control

My camera turns on but it won't focus on automatic and when I press the button to take a picture it won't take one on manuel or automatic.

There may be a few things preventing the camera from taking a picture. I don't know the lens you are using but by chance does it have an auto/manual switch that has been switched to manual? Also make sure the lens is locked in position. The camera won't take a picture unless it has focus in the auto focus mode, this is normal. What are you trying to focus on? The camera auto focus system will search and fail to auto focus on surfaces that have little or nor contrast. For example glass, chrome, a blank wall, water, blue sky. Other conditions that auto focus fails is being to close to your subject, heavy fog, a dim lit subject, available light and night photography. Once the little green confirmation light comes on the camera has focus and will operate as it should.

Brand new Canon EOS Rebel XS. Suddenly, image in the view finder is blurry. Auto focus seems to be working, and pictures are coming out fine. But sometimes, the autofocus focuses on the wrong thing, and so...

Next to the viewfinder ther is a diopter adjustment so you can change the focus in the viewfinder. this is so if you need glasses the camera can be set for you. Start by focusing the camera on something, then slide to turn the diopter adjustment until it looks sharp and try not to bump it.

My cannon eos rebel x 35mm wont take pictures on auto focus acts like the timing is off. Works fine on manual focus. Have already tried different lenses, batteries, and cleaning.

Your AF module needs to be replaced. Or maybe the mirror part that bounces light to the AF module.

Another possible issue is light. The AF sensors need a certain amount to light to be able to see if its in focus. Some lenses don't allow that much light to pass, so the sensors can't focus the lens. Try a lens that passes more light, like the 50mm f/1.8 or point your lens at a very bright scene.

If increasing the light level doesn't solve it, it needs repair. You might check Ebay for a "parts" Rebel to have spare parts for your good one.
