My camera says the card has wrong format but then unable to? so i switched cards and it still does it?

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common cause is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position. The second most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Please note that your particular model camera is not capable of working with 4GB or higher cards. You'll need to use 2GB or less standard SD cards. These are relatively inexpensive, and may be purchased on Amazon if your local store no longer carries them. There are also other common causes if the above didn't help, with troubleshooting steps for this problem listed here.

Hi there please follow the steps and let me know the result.
1. Ensure batteries are fully charged & clean the battery connector point in side the battery compartment.
2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.
3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck
4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.
5. Now turn on camera( with out card ) and see ,if working then fix the memory card & again turn on the camera. If working then fine . Otherwise format the memory card and fix back in camera again & try. Make sure before format the memory card take a back up all photos in your computer then format. If no luck then reset or restore the camera setting by pressing Menu key for 2 sec .. in not done the press both Menu & self time key for 2 - 4 sec.
i hope it will gives you success.

I just changed my memory card and it said can't format the memory card wouldn't stay down what is the problem and where can i get it fixed in windsor ontario

Don't understand what you mean by won't stay down, but is this new memory card a 4GB or larger SDHC card? If so, it will not work with your older camera. You will need to use 2GB or less standard SD card only. Fortunately, these are relatively inexpensive these days. Recommend checking on Amazon.com.
There are several possible causes for "memory card locked", "memory card error", or "no memory card". Some include trying to use a 4GB SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. Others include problems with the tiny slide switch on the side of the card, or the electrical contact switch internal to the camera. The problem may also arise from simple formatting problems if the card has never been formatted in the camera (note that this will also erase the card). Troubleshooting tips for this problem may be found at this link.

Would not format memory csrd gigaware 4gb

The M425 works with SD cards. Your 4GB card is actually an SDHC card. While it fits into the slot, it is electronically incompatible and will not work. You need to use SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

New 4GB SanDisk card won't format in my Hp M425 digital camera!

Hi,

First be aware that a 4GB card may well exceed the capability of this camera as older cameras have a max capacity of 2GB because of the filing system that is used which is known as FAT.

A 4GB card is FAT32 and this causes problems because older cameras cannot recognize that system.

However please have a look at my FixYa Tip on the subject which gives a complete breakdown on the issue.

In some cases you can format a card with your PC and it may work with the camera.

Thanks for using FixYa.

If anything is broke it's the memory card. You need to get a new memory card.
