Hi, I have a Bell & Howell Model LX58-TX57 with broken bushings

Hi, I have a Bell & Howell Model LX58-TX57 film projector. On the take up reel their are 3 bushings on the drive assembly. 1 on the gear shaft and 2 that guide or steady the wheel. All 3 have broken from age. Can I still get replacement parts for these? Thanks for any help you can give.

SOURCE: i have a bell & howell projector 8mm silent,

I have the same model with the exact same problem. In fact I have 4 of these projectors 2 are the 1481 and the other 2 are 1462. Basically they are the same inside with the 3 cone drive set up. All of theses projector suffer with this sooner or later. I would like to find replacements too. However I can help you with getting drive working and I have repaired my 1481 successfully using converted domestic rubber tap washers drilled out and ground down to the same shape. They take a while to do and you need to make sure that they are not lumpy but smooth. I hope this helps, if you want details let me know, Rob

If the backside of the arm opposite the the pin holding the reel has a screw [possibly plastic] loosen it 1/2 turn at a time. First put a film reel on the pin to check each adjustment buy putting the empty reel with your finger.

I need a manual for Bell & Howell Lumina MX60 for an elderly person - need instructions how to load film.

Spec says it's auto-load. From what I recall of my own projector, you mount the input film reel on the front 'arm', extending it as necessary to give clearance, switch on the projector, then feed the free end of the film into the appropriate orifice at the front of the projector.
It then takes over, feeds the film through and wraps it around the take-up spool automatically. It may be necessary to cut the end of the leader on a diagonal to feed it in (not each time the film is loaded, just the first time.)
Once the film has fed through, switch on the lamp, focus and enjoy.

No it won't.

To be crystal clear; This is a Regular silent movie projector. It will not run, or play Super8, or Super 8mm movie films, with or without sound.

How do I stop my Dad's Bell & Howell projector from "skipping" while running a film, model L, design 122.

For a projector to run right, the motor has gear teeth in it that engage with the hollow points on the film itself. The motor has to turn at a steady speed with no friction or hesitation. It is possible the motor on the inside of the projector needs to be oiled or cleaned out...or rebuilt at worse.
There is also the motor that pulls the film thru the projector and winds it onto the receiving spool. Sometimes that motor is out of synch with the projector drive motor and trys to pull the film thru to fast or turns to slow and the you get that "clicking " sound when the receiving spool isn't winding the film up fast enough and the film gets dragged on by those projector teeth and make that plastic clicking sound.
Watch the film while it is running between the two reels and the projector lens. The film should be slightly taunt going into the projector and slightly taunt coming back out of the projector. If you see the film grouping up in front of the projector drive or after, then you know your spools are needing greased up or there is a drag on the motors causing things to be unsynchronized.

This is definitely a mechanical problem and you need to watch the film being fed into the projector and how it is wound up n the receiver spool to see where the fault lies.

MX33 Bell & Howell collection reel does not turn

As this problem is not relevant to "Motherboards" you might like to post it in the right category. But, you might like to check for wear on the drive wheel (rubber) they become shiny over time and this will decrease the friction needed to move the film stock. Rubber is and organic compound and as such it deteriorates, my Akai reel to reel did a similar thing a few years ago and the part was no longer available, so I made one( re-engineered the old one actually). good luck

How to replace a worm gear on a Bell & Howell model 2585 16mm film projector.

Replacing the worm gear on a Bell & Howell 16mm film projector is a very long and involved process requiring a complete teardown. It is similar to replacing a blown head gasket in an automobile engine. The worm gear is the heart of the mechanism and takes a lot of time consuming labor just to get to it. In the process you lose a bunch of critical adjustments which require resetting with special Bell & Howell tools/jigs/gauges. Many of these projectors are at least 30 to 40 years old and will also require re-lubrication.
The gear itself costs around $30-ish and takes 3 to 8 hours of labor to replace. Richard Patchett in Michigan and International Cinema Equipment in Miami, Florida does the worm gear replacement.

If you don't know how to service this type of machine, I would contact a Bell & Howell dealer and get it repaired/serviced. It possibly needs the magnetic head cleaning.

The Bell and Howell Model 456 Autoload was made that way ON PURPOSE. The last foot or so must be manually pulled from the projector. As described in the manual, "this safeguard has been designed to prevent the end of your film from flapping against the projector after your movie is completed."
If the entire film was going into the take up reel at the end automatically, then THAT was a defective occurence. It is not supposed to do that.

Belle & Howell Super 8 Projector model 254RS loading problem

Don't have the motor switch in the still position when loading -make sure it is on FORWARD. Look at the little holes in the film and make sure the film is on the same side as the little grooves on the drive gear.
PS -let the bulb cool off before try to move the projector ,the bulbs are very expensive and hard to find.
If you do use the still position to view a frame do it for just a few seconds or the bulb will burn the film. Good luck- Tom.
