SOURCE: hoover nextra tumble dryer

Please first check if both fuses or the circuit breaker has not tripped.
If you are getting only 120v on one leg of the 140v power, you may get lights and no heat, otherwise please give the make and model.

SOURCE: tumble dryer when switched on cuts power to all sockets in house

i had the same problem after it tripped the fuse i looked in the dryer where the cloths were and saw that there was a buildup of steam in the drum. i then realised that because i was using the dryer in a very cold outhouse in the winter the water in the cloths was condensing too fast for the machine to process, this in turn caused a a backup of steam in the drum which backed up so much that the heating elements shorted out and caused the fuse to trip out. i hope this helps. after moving the dryer to a warmer part of the house i have had no problems.

SOURCE: Tumble dryer trips electricity

I own the same machine and this happened to me, if the internal working of the machine get wet it will cut off causing the electrics to trip. This model is a condenser dryer, at the bottom of the machine if you open up the flap you will see the condenser on the left hand side, the manufacturer recommends that you clean this unit once every month and also empty the reservoir and clean the fluff filter after every use. While this may seem like a lot of hard work there is a very good reason for this. I suspect that your problem is due to a build up of fluff and or gunge in the condenser and bottom of the machine. Remove the condenser and give it a good clean of all fluff, you can run water through it either in the sink or bath as the best way to do this it is very fiddley using just your hands. Next check to see if there is a build up of water in the back the machine where the condenser usually sits, you will have to lie on your stomach and reach into the back of the machine (OBVIOUSLY ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE UNPLUGGED FROM THE MAINS SUPPLY BEFORE YOU DO THIS!) along the floor of the machine you will feel a channel cut into the plastic which runs into the sump at the back of the machine, if you have not cleaned the machine properly this is probably blocked and is the culprit. With this blocked the water is unable to travel to the pump that takes the water from the condenser into the resevoir at the top of the machine, and therefore it stays in the machine and can get thrown about onto the electrics and could cause the machine to cut out and trip your electrics! If this is not blocked check the black rubber pipe leading from the pump to the reservoir is not blocked, failing that perhaps the pump (in the plastic case at the back of the machine) is faulty and will need to be replaced. If water has built up in the machine you will also need to check to make sure none is sitting in the heater coil compartment (it did with mine) to get at this you will have to unscrew the metal plate at the back of the machine and let any water out. Leave the machine for a few hours to make sure it is dry and then give it another go. If your machine is still under warranty though i would call indesit first as they may get a little funny if you remove any of the machine covers yourself and refuse to look at your machine.

SOURCE: I have in indesit tumble dryer model

Hiya drodger, i had the same problem with my hotpoint dryer, (same company) if this is a condenser dryer make sure the drawer is collecting the water there is a small hole at the bottom of the drawer if you have a straw poke it in and clean it out, also at the back of the dryer there is a clear plastic pipe and a black one take them both off and clean them, your problem is exactly the same as mine so you will probably have to buy a new heating element (they are a lot cheaper from ebay) they are so easy to fit just 2 clips (i did it and im not dead yet!) hopefully you will then find the dryer will work perfectly, word of advice though clean the collecting drawer out at least once a month.
Hope this helps

Purchased one of these tumble dryers on 20th Oct 2011 from Currys, yesterday morning no power whatsoever.
Have refused repair or replacement after seeing your similar problems and also after finding this review that indicates that these tumble dryers dont like the cold.
As many people like us have them in the garage, I'm not interested in one that needs it's own radiator and blanket !!!! grrrr ..

My Hoover tumble dryer plug keeps over heating

The plug is not making proper contact with the socket, causing arcing and heat due to increased resistance. You probably need to change the wall socket, unless you can close the contacts where the plug pushes in. (AFTER YOU HAVE SWITCHED OFF THE MAINS)

I turn my indesit is70c tumble dryer on and after a minute it trips the rcd. I then reset the rcd and turn it back on and it runs for about a minute and then trips the rcd again. Can anyone help me with...

this could be the hater or the motor but sometimes just chafed wireing
Common faults -
1 The heating elements can fail (meaning open circuit)
2 There are cut-outs (T.O.C's) that might need resetting
3 The thermostats (stats) can trip out or burn out (meaning open circuit)
4 Modern tumble dryers also have sensors and pcb's (Printed circuit boards) these have programs that can fail and circuitry although most should produce an error code showing you were the fault is.
5 Faulty connections and burned wires may also be the fault.

Dryer heats up but drum doesn't turn.

If the drum is very stiff to turn could be the drum bearings shot which would account for the broken belt, replace belt and it liable to break shortly after again. hover are known for there bad bearings and they cost a small fortune.

check it out have a look and see if there is nothing jaming the drum inside, i am certain your belt has gone and maybe down to the stiff drum making belt break, replace belt but bare in mind it may break again if the drum is too stiff.

choice is yours really. bearing kits cost more than 50 quid in general

take the top off. there should be a small relay board to the right just behind the fascia. the fault probably lies in that board - relay not holding in
