Your symptoms are indicating you have an automatic defrosting problem.

You can prove this by unplugging the unit and placing a fan blowing into the freezer compartment for about 2 hours AFTER removing the contents of the freezer.

This will make a water mess so be prepared to tend to the water.

After the 2 hours manual defrosting session... reload the freezer contents and plug the unit back in.

Check temps 4 hours later.... everything SHOULD be back to normal. However..., in about 2 days the same icing up symtom will reappear if.... it is NOT automatically defrosting.

The causes can be:

1. the defrost timer (Common failure)

2. 60 deg F bi-metal thermostat

3 Defrost heating element

4. Wiring

There is yet another instance where the air damper does not open or has failed where the fresh food section will either get too warm or too cold.

Everything I am reading says you have an automatic defrosting problem.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Food freezing in Refrigerator Freezer ok. Westinghouse model wse6100wa. Have misplaced manual and need to know what temperature is correct and how to fix this problem.

There is a normal setting of the thermostat for the fridge and freezer and you can select the fridge setting to be lower than normal than what is set presently.
If there is no change then the thermostat is not cutting off the cooling and so there is no control of temperature within the fridge. Allow the lowest setting of the thermostat in the fridge section to confirm this fault.

The hole at the back of fridge is not letting water go down so i have puddles of water running to front of fridge have tried cleaning out but just the same

Your drain tube may be stopped up with ice at the upper end because it drains too slow because it's stopped up at the lower end in the evaporator pan under the unit at the floor. It can get dust and mold in it. Once you get the ice out at the top a little pressure with a turkey baster will usually clear it out. Flushing it out with hot water and clorox may help.
Make sure it drains quick enough to prevent refreezing. . The drain should be located below the evaporator coils on the lower back of the freezer.

No Cooling in the Fridge section, freezer is icing

Generally on these models they rely on cold air being pumped fr\om the freezer to the fridge and have a adjusting device to control the flow, you need to locate and check this is free and working properly. Another reason for freezer ice up is a shortage of gas in the unit, this is usually unfixable as the leak can rarely be found as it usually occurs within the cabinet case. Sorry to say it would then be a throw away.

Westinghouse Wse6100WA side by side Fridge-icing up/not cooling

This is a bad design flaw, the fridhe is cooled by fan forced air from the freazer. Two ducts vent into and out of the fridge fron the freezer and ice can block them up (which you can find if you take off all the plastic at the top and back of the fridge).
Hence, when they block up, the frindge does not cool, hence the thermostat tells the fridge to keep running which makes the freezer colder and colder, making the blockage worse.

You need to not only fully defrost the freezer (which can be done quicker by removing the plastic panel in the back of the freezer and using a hairdryer) BUT also fully dry the fridge before turning it back on.
To stop it happening again, avoid puting unvovered liquids or hot items in the fridge. Also avoid leaving the fridge and freezer doors open for long especially in humid conditions. As I said, it's a bad design.
