hi,
Error code 2-2 indicates "Short Protect Circuit" problem in tv.
Need to check pico fuses in power supply as one or two got blown due to bad convergence chips.
Below is an exploded view of tv chassis, power supply and convergence area has been marked to give you better idea to look for pico fuses.
Unplug tv from wall socket before to repair/check any thing inside tv.
Hope these info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Tip

Basic Standard TV Troubleshooting Techniques.

When you turn your television on and get nothing but a clicking sound you could have almost anything wrong with it.

The two most likely places to look are the high voltage section and the low voltage power supply. In order I will explain what to check to try to resolve the problem.

First, is the standby light blinking in some sort of pattern? If so, count the number of times it blinks between long pauses. If it is blinking in a patten, this is an error code, and can be helpful in diagnosing the problem.

Depending on the manufacturer the blinking pattern will mean different things. Error code lists are available by googling "(manufacturer) tv error codes". Proceed from here based on the information provided by the error code list.

If your set has no blinking lights proceed by unplugging and looking at the mainboard for burned resistors or bulging electrolytic capacitors.

Electrolytics look like little cans, with shiny ends and are generally black, grey or blue. They have a positive and negative lead so be careful when replacing to get the polarity correct.

If they are bulging replace them. Also replace any bad resistors found. Resistors must be replaced with similar units and cannot be derated.

Resolder any bad connections on the low voltage power supply and certainly the high voltage power supply. That would be most or all of them.

Finding no charred resistors or bulging caps, and after resoldering all connections, your unit still does not work, check the horizontal output transistor for failure.

Using a DMM on diode check, check the transistor out of circuit for shorts/opens between any two leads. A good unit should have somewhere between 500 and 1000 ohms one way and infinity when the leads are reversed. Only two lead configurations will show conductivity. One set of leads should show infinite resistance both ways. If the transistor checks bad, replace it and the flyback. If you are not sure about the results replace it. Check all resistors and diodes in the HV circuit and replace any suspicious units.

If the horizontal output transistor checks OK, check all semis in the LV power supply. Replace any bad units found and check all associated resistors and replace as necessary.

If both the HV and LV sections check OK, remove the circuit board from the CRT and try the unit. If it runs your CRT is bad and needs replaced. If it does not run your problem is elsewhere.

Working one section at a time, remove and isolate any remaining sections while attempting to turn unit on. If unit works with a particular section disconnected, your problem is in that section and you will need to do normal troubleshooting procedure, listed above, on the section in question.

If after all the above procedures are tried, and your unit still isn't working, you may have to replace an entire board. These days most boards are relatively inexpensive. The most likely board would be the LV power supply which usually contains the HV power supply also.

Any parts or boards needed can be ordered at http://www.encompass.com or http://www.shopjimmy.com .

Good luck with your troubleshooting and be careful while inside the set especially near the High Voltage second anode where it connects to the CRT.

Thanks for using FixYa and the great rating. Please consider a testimonial.

My KDS-50A2020 TV has an error code indicating a lamp driver fault (5 red blinks). I replaced both the lamp and the ballast and it still doesn't work. I need further assistance troubleshooting the...

Hello.
Ballast in Sony is one of the most reliable parts, almost never goes bad.
I assume you have TV unplugged from the wall outlet to reset error memory (not to mention that you have to do it anyway during ballast replacement).
I hope you are using good quality lamp, because cheap substitute from E-Bay can cause same problem. Lamp and ballast works as duo and on-board diagnostic system is unable to separate them unless lamp is completely blown (in that case you will have steady "Lamp" LED blinking).
You need to set TV up with back cover removed but lamp door attached (there is switch that prevent TV from working if lamp door is removed). You need to locate large 2-wire connector on ballast and make sure that it's getting about 330V DC from power supply board when you turning your TV on. If it's not there - you have power supply board problem. There should be fuse on it (not on the ballast board but power supply board - just trace those two thick wires where they coming from). That fuse could be blown by previous bad ballast shortage.
Small connector on ballast have 5 pins. Some of them ground, one of them steady 5V and another trigger (turn on signal) 5V. Make sure all voltages are there. If there is no trigger 5V - you have problem with main board.
In my experience 90% cases - it is very bad quality new lamp or something is just not connected (forgot to put plug all the way or something).
Good luck!
Russ.

Tv has sound ,no picture, power light comes on

Tihs would be the power supply unit gone bad.

1. Check power supply fuse if the fuse is blow so are the caps do not try to replace the fuse you will smoke this thing.
2. upon inspection you can remove the power supply unit and buy a new one. There about $150 bucks aftermarket for this unit. So I would be looking for other RCA's with this same series and pull some psu's to save money.

I hope this helps you find a solution for your TV these are nice to have and worth the repair.

NO PICTURE OR SOUND JUST A RED LIGHT

DVD MIKE,

do me a favor, if the set is still together, please remove the back, and find the convergence card... it is on the upper right hand side. Unplug the RED plastic plug ONLY. Now try to turn on the TV. If it turns on, but the picture looks completely out of convergence, then yo uneed to replace the 2 STK392-040 IC's and you will have to test all of the 3.9 ohm resistors on the board. You will usually find 1 or 2 bad. let me know what you find.

Toshiba 50H71 Projection TV

I would check the power supply and the tuner section. This sounds like the low voltage powers supply is going bad or that the tuner section might be going bad. Does the picture fade to snow? Also I would suggest that you let a TV Technician take a look at the TV to determine what is happening. Most likely it is the power supply.

Thank you,

I hope this helps,

Turning on problem with Panasonic Viva PT-43LC14

Sounds as you have a bad ballest. The ballest is the power supply that turns your lamp on. You can check your lamp by removing it and it should be clear and no broken pieces of glass. With the lamp removed install the cover and turn it on you should hear no noise and when the power light turns red you should see a LAMP red led blink every 5 seconds. If no noise then the lamp is bad. If you do hear noise you have a bad ballist. Hope this helps. Frank
