If you downloaded your copy of Windows from an unlicensed source, then you may have been mislead into thinking you were purchasing an original copy of your operating system.

If you have any problems with it and Microsoft confirms that it is an illegitimate copy, they will not offer any customer support for it. Also if the Windows live update system doesn't accept your copy, then you will not be eligible for Windows updates.

Also, if this error only comes up while you're surfing the net, you may just have a spyware/adware program hiding in your computer that is meant to deceive you into thinking you need to click a link or download a program or ultimately pay them money to perform some kind of service that you don't need.

Even if it's a free service, they might simply want your information in order to steal your identity.

SOURCE: you may be a victim of software counterfeiting.

Just click validate, enter the activation # and reactivate.
It does this if the activation file gets damaged,or if using pirated software.(if this is pirated software, you will need to get a genuine copy)

OK, This is a notice from Microsoft. The validation tool thinks your Version is a counterfeit. It is not a virus, but is still a headache no less. It will not go away, we can't shut it off. The only way to fix is to reload with a valid code or call Microsoft to report it. I hope this helps :)

i think the operating system has been updated by u(knowingly or unknowingly) and the operating system is not original(pirated/cracked).
Buy an original one or use an oem version if u have got with ur machine.
The best method will be to format and reinstall the operating system and not update it.

I got an error says that i am a victim of counterfeiting and the windows that i using is not a genuine how can you help me?

This means that the operating system on your laptop is a non licensed copy that cannot be registered to you. It is a bootleg copy of the software program. You cannot stop the pop up messages without purchasing a new operating system with a key code license and installing it on your laptop to get rid of the counterfeit version.

What is victim of software counterfering

counterfeit: made to look like the original of something, usually for dishonest or illegal purposes.
If you're being victim of software conterfeit, that means that your software is illegal.
This error is very common due to Windos Genuine Advantage (WGA).
You just need a WGA remover to fix it.
You can download one from here

I am A victim of software counterfeiting. how ca i resolve this?

Well if you knowingly installed a copy from a friend or so then it could possible be a counterfeit copy...
However if you know that it is a genuine copy and you got the error message recently then contact microsoft, i have had this occur on people who actually bought there computer from a store, using "windows 7" but its the same technology used to detect the validation of your Windows so the system dont really matter, it would normally pop up after the update and then inform of a software fraud and a counterfeit copy may be installed and they had to call microsoft for resolution, they knew about it, but i never heard of it affecting XP.
Give microsoft a call if you know it is a genuine copy and they can resolve the issue for you...

HI,

That message ("you may be a victim of software counterfeiting") is displayed when your Windows serial number is being used by someone else. If your copy of Windows is legitimate, try contacting Microsoft support.

Take care,
Alex

Victim of software Counterfeiting,Problem

To temporarily bypass the problem you can do a system restore to a date before you started having the problem.
If that does not work, boot to safe mode after downloading and installing HijackThis. Start Hijack this software (utility to modify registry values) and scroll down registry entries to the line that says “020 - Winlogon Nofity: Wgalogon - …” select it, and click fix checked.

If you think that your isystem is counterfeit and you had been victim of a scam you should contact the person that sold you the computer, and then contact Microsoft.
See Microsoft Help and Support.
