Question about Mitsubishi WS-65819 TV

Open Question

Mitsubishi WS-65819 rear projection television. Service manuals here: http://service-manual.eu/model.php?id=2703 TV picture is too small horizontally and rounded. All three colors are effected, but the shrinkage is a few inches different on each of the three colors. All three color components seem to be present and about the same brightness. Is this just a convergence issue? None of the images are full width so perhaps a horizontal amp of some kind? I'm wondering where to start.

SOURCE: 65 INCH PROJECTION SCREEN IS SUPER BRIGHT

This model is equipped with a self-diagnosis feature to help with diagnosis of shutdown problems. To activate this turn the unit on let it shutdown then press the input and menu buttons on the front panel simultaneously and hold them in for 5 seconds after 5 seconds the power LED on the front panel will blink a two digit sequence. This will be one set of blinks a short pause then another set of blinks, this will repeat 5 times. 1 - 2 = no error detected 2 - 1 = X-ray protect (high voltage or beam current) 2 - 2 = Short protect (short protect monitors low voltage supplies) 2 - 3 = Deflection protect (this could be loss of vertical or horizontal deflection) 2 - 4 = Vertical protect (usually loss of vertical from the source) 1. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR LEAKY C9A60 470 PF 1000 V PART # 154P400030, PARALLEL TO D9A57 ON THE POWER PCB (NOT SHOWN IN THE SCHEMATIC). 2. SHUTDOWN AT POWER WITH SELF DIAGNOSIS ERROR 2 2. CHECK FOR OPEN FUSES F9A04 AND F9A05 PART # 283P043090 ON THE +24 AND -24 VOLT LINES. IF THE FUSES ARE OPEN THE CONVERGENCE OUTPUT CIRCUIT WOULD BE SUSPECT. 3. SELF-DIAGNOSIS INDICATES SHORT PROTECT. CHECK FOR A SHORTED IC4B01 PART # 270P261020 (VERTICAL OUTPUT) LOADING 24-VOLT SUPPLY LINE. LOCATED ON THE MAIN PCB

SOURCE: Intermittent convergence issue became permanent

Hi Ed,

Your convergence amplifiers are definitely bad. The user manual will not work, since it is the same manual that comes with the set when it was new. The service manual can be found at:

CRT base card circuit fault. Check and replace damaged component/s at its horizontal scan output section circuit. Check the LOT (Line Output Transformer) too for damage. Replace the horizontal scan output transistor. Check the input voltage to LOT. If the voltage is absent check the feeder resistor; if any. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Hd receptiomn

To get HD reception one needs to use a decoder and then the signal OUT from the decoder goes by cable to the TV set, that is now used essentially as a monitor.
however if you have a fault use the service manual's troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue.

BLINKING GREEN LIGHT AND WILL NOT POWER UP

You can check the Error code by doing the following.

On the Front panel hold down the Device and Menu Button for 5 seconds. The LED light will then start flashing the first set of flashing lights is for the "1"5 part of the code it will then pause for about a half second and start the ones place 1"5". The code will repeat 5 times before going off.

The Error Codes: 12 - Normal Operation; 21 - X-Ray Protect; 22 - Short Protect; 23 - Loss of Horizontal Deflection; 24 - Loss of Vertical Deflection.

The problem may also be in the power supply when you first plug the device in check how many times the Led blinks if it blinks for just over a minute the power supply is working fine. If the Led blinks repeatedly and does not stop the DM is not running.

When my 65 inch Mitsubishi tv is on for about 10 minutes the colors get al blury and almost looks like 3D without the glasses. It is nine years old Model number WS-65819.It doesn't clear up

Your Convergence ICs are likely failing or it is a bad solder joint related to that area. It is very common on rear projections. The solution is to replace the STK chips, check fuses and the resistors next to the STK chips. Replace as necessary and re-align via the service menu. It is about a $300 repair at a tv service center. You will need the service manual if you decide to do this yourself.

Try This:
When you notice the symptons Use this simple test to verify.
Go to the users menu on the tv.
Look for the converge option probably under setup or video setting. Converge is short for convergence to align the red and blue colors to the green color.

If you cannot move the red either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for red section.
If you cannot move the blue either horizontal or vertical, then the STK chip has failed for the blue section.

If you can move both in each direction then the problem is something else.

Note if one STK chip fails, you replace both regardless. There may only be one STK chip in this set. If there are two, they will be right next to each other.

Use format on the remote to change the widescreen scaling. If this is not the problem, you may need to adjust the video settings using the service mode in this manual.

WS 55819 Mitsubishi HDTV , the tv turned off itself. The power light on for couple of second then off again. What is wrong with the TV?

This is a classic switchmode power supply, shutting down to avoid a fire, explosion, or both. This set had developed a problem, that is so severe that the set must be shut down, This set should be removed from the Power, and in my professional recommendation, you should get a "Quote" for repair, from, an Akai, Approved Service Center, this point is very important for a good result, Always contact, their local, "Head Office" Now, when you get the information you want, then you can decide as to repair of replacement. The reason we want an approved agent, is that way, all the engineers are trained on their own brand sets, they have seen almost all faults, and will get the job done quicker, and for less cost, and usually have parts on hand, also sometimes, there has been a service bulletin in issued and the repair may be subsided or even free.
