This happends when the auto focus or the flash bulb or capcitor is desfucntional I would check this into a shop to see witch it is you might want to take the battery fully out then put it back in but I think there is more of a issue here then that.

This mesage indicates that the power on self test has failed. This is most often caused by the lens mechanism being frozen or jambed. Under normal operation, the lens assembly should fully extend and then retract. If this fails, the message you see will be presented. While the message can be issued for other non-mechanical reasons, the lens problem is the most common.

Also, disposable batteries may require acquisition of new functioning features to make camera funtions retrieved. As soon as i turn it on it beeps and says turn the power off and on again the lens wont move in and out

I'm sorry that the camera display the eror: turn the power off and on again. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset. Refer the URL for the information to reset a Cyber-shot® digital still camera back to original factory settings:

If the issue is still unresolved, service may be required.

The lens keep going out & in

well it might but i doubt it! here is the fix direct from Sony who charge $90 for this bit of vital information.

OK you are probably going to think I am loony giving you this advise But No I am completely sane!

Get a can of compressed air OR acces to a compressor at your local garage Get them to fit the triggered air blower tool to it.

Blow around the lens in all the extension joins the firmly slap it in the palm of you hand with the side of the camera making contact with you palm. Do the procedure two or 3 times and inbetween the slaps turn it on to activate the lens mechanism. I have now fixed about 80 of these cameras with this method. I obtained the fix from Sony who charge $90 to do exactly the same. Keep at it as it will eventually work. One tip, make sure the battery is charged before you do this.

Sony DSC-W150 power on keeps going to set date/time

The date and time settings are displayed after turning on the camera. Solution
sp.gif sp.gif It is normal for the camera to lose time and date settings if the internal battery is left uncharged for an extended period of time; some cameras will default to the time-setting screen when turned on if this happens. Follow the steps below to resolve this issue.
  1. Turn off the camera.
  2. Do one of the following:
    • Insert a fully-charged battery pack into the camera.
    • If the camera is supplied with an AC power adapter, plug the adapter into a working electrical outlet and then connect it to the camera.
  3. Allow the internal battery that retains the time and date information to charge for at least 90 minutes.
  4. After enough time has elapsed to sufficiently charge the internal battery, turn on the camera.
  5. Set the time and date.
  6. Turn off the camera for 30 seconds.
  7. Turn on the camera again.
  8. Check to see if the date and time have been saved.
The troubleshooting steps listed above should resolve your issue. If you have completed all of the steps and the issue is not resolved, service may be required. The Sony® eService Web site at http://eservice.sony.com/ can assist you in obtaining service from a Sony Service Center or locating a Sony Authorized Servicer.

Turn your power on and off again

Sony Technical Support Team is the first place to ask. This may be a firmware error, in which case the camera will need to be replaced.
