Question about Brother MFC-5840CN All-In-One InkJet Printer

Printer won't print

My Brother MFC 5440/5840CN printer does not print, even though the print queue indicates that it is printing. I suspect that the printer is somehow off-line. The printer display has a blinking cursor that says "Res standard." I have been unsuccessful in cycling through the Menu function to find some sort of Ready to Print option, but nothing comes up. Also, I have tried turning the machine off by holding the ON/OFF button down as the User Guide instructs, but it stays on and only responds with three beeps. Nowhere in the documentation are beeps defined, so I am at a loss as to what these indicate. Pressing other buttons also results in beeps. It might be helpful for you to know that I am running Windows XP Media Center edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 3. I will be most grateful if someone can be of assistance. This is a used printer that was given to me and I would like to get it to work. Thanks!

Try this

- Unplug Machine
- plug in the machine while holding down the “menu”button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in “maintenance” mode.
- press 80
- press the “mono start” button several times until you see “purge: xxxx”
- press “2783” in order to reset the purge counter. You will see: “purge:0000”
- press the "stop" button.
- press “99” to exit the maintenance mode.

in that fails
Unplug Machine
- plug in the machine while holding down the “menu”button until all the leds are flashing on/off. Now you are in “maintenance” mode.

select factory reset..

unplug usb cable from pc
click start, printers and faxes
delete old brother printer
plug in usb cable ,, it will install a fresh copy of the driver..

I have an MFC5840CN, and these instructions were the first ones I found that were entirely accurate for my machine. these worked the first time I tried them, and I was able to get back to printing. I found similar instructions in a different order that DID NOT work. Now I need to find out how to remove that ink reservoir/rank and empty and replace it. Thanks!

Check if it has employed any paper jam. Or else, try cleaning or replacing your drum and put it back again. See if it works.

Outlook won't print to Brother MFC7360N AllInOne Laser Printer

Must be set on Brother MFC-7360N series. Set on PC-FAX will not print with all programs, as it is printing with an output through the fax. Go to control panel, select devices, printers to change to pc-7360 series. This should print on all programs.

Brother MFC prints blank pages

Try disconnecting power completely, not just turning off. Wait a few minutes and reconnect to power

Also, your print queue may be full with failed attempts at printing. The printer becomes confused and does not know what to print next. You should be able to flush the queue at the computer, but the complete disconnect and reconnect may accomplish this

Hos to clear the printer queue in a Brother MFC 620 CN printer

Not sure what version of windows you have but this should work.

First remove the paper tray so it stops printing. Click start and chose control panel, go into the printer section. Locate the brother, you should be able to see how many documents are in queue. Right click the brother and chose cancel all documents.

My yellow toner is out and the printer will not print in just black

Hello,

The MFC-9440CN should be able to work even if one or more of the color cartridges are empty.

here's what you can do to print in black only.

1. Unplug the power to the MFC-9440CN
2. Clear the print queue on your computer so that there are no jobs waiting.
3. Right click on the MFC-9440CN printer icon and select "printing preferences"
4. Select "mono" as the color mode.
5. Turn the power back on for the printer.

Now when you print it will be in black only and it should work even if all 3 colored toner's are empty.

Thanks,

Pat

Can't address envelopes using Microsoft Word 2007 & Windows 7

Excellent question. Wish I had the answer. I have the same problem with the MFC-7440N. I hook up my old HL 1240 and it prints them fine, so I now use two printers - one for envelopes and one for normal printing. I contacted Brothers and was told that it was not the printer, but the Application. If so, then why does my old Brothers printer work? They do not have the answer.

My 5 in 1 printer is saying no cartridge when I just replaced it and when I do get it to print it's not printing that good at all kind of gray like it's out of ink, it has a new cartridge

  • Click open START then CONTROL PANEL then PRINTERS AND FAXES
  • If asked, click the link that says view or modify existing printers
  • You should get to a window that shows a list of printers that are installed on your computer
  • Look for the printer icon with a tiny little checkmark in a black circle to the upper right (see image below). This is your default printer, that is, it's the one that prints if you don't manually select a specific printer. defprint.jpg
Note how the checkmark indicates that the Brother HL-2040 Series is my default printer
  • In most cases, this is the printer you are having trouble with, but the following procedure can be applied to any printer on your system.
  • Double click open your default printer to view the print queue printqueue.jpg
Note that there are two documents waiting to print in my print queue
  • If the print queue is empty, skip the next step
  • Click and pull down the PRINTER menu from the top of the print queue and select CANCEL ALL DOCUMENTS. This will delete anything that's stuck in the queue cancelall.jpg
After clicking CANCEL ALL DOCUMENTS, it may take a minute or two for the queue to completely clear
  • Click and pull down the PRINTER menu from the top of the print queue. If there is a line item that says USE PRINTER OFFLINE and there is a checkmark to the left of it, click it once, otherwise, click CLOSE.
  • Now go to the printer and power it off, wait a few seconds and power it back on.
If these steps haven't solved your printing problem, then you probably need help
