Question about Honeywell Programmable Thermostat Heater

1 Answer

I have a Honeywell programmable Thermostat (an expensive one that handles humidity, etc) and every spring and fall the thermostats behave improperly by ignoring the programmed temperature and cooling the house down to as low as 65 degrees (even when programmed at 78 degrees). These are the thermostat readings themselves, not temperatures taken at different locations in the house.

    donwory,

It is the PC8900. That's a very interesting suggestion. I hadn't considered the humidity control.

I will check that and update this post with the outcome.

    Thanks very much for that,

    Mark

It was set at 40%, and I upped it to 50%. We'll see if that does the trick.

    Thanks again,

What is the model number of the thermostat? What may be happening is the humidity control is trying to satisfy the humidity setting by running the a/c. In the installers set-up, there should be a setting to determine how long the system should run to satisfy humidity setting. I typically set thermostats for a 3 degree droop. Meaning it'll only drop 3 degrees below set temp. Also check your humidity setting to be sure it's not set too low. It should be set between 45% and 50%.

Honeywell thermostat blows cold air on heat

Thermostats don't actually blow anything, the heating system might though. Check the breakers for your heat system, then call a heating specialist. They're really not that expensive.

I currently have a Honeywell T874C1000 and want to replace it with a programmable thermostat. It controls a cooling only air handling unit with an outdoor condensing unit. No heat.

All you have to do is note which wires are hooked to which terminals and exchange them i.e.-R(Red) to R terminal, Y(Yellow) to Y terminal, etc. The only wires you should need are the Red, Yellow, Green, and sometimes Blue if the thermostat is powered by the unit and not batteries. Here are the most common wiring procedures:

Red(R)=Power
White(W)=Heat
Green(G)=Fan
Yellow(Y)=Cooling
Blue(B/C)=Common/Ground

Hope this helps!

It's an expensive solution but doable. Look for Honeywell's VisionPro IAQ thermostat. It works much differently than a conventional thermostat and shouldn't click at all make sure it's the 3-wire version.

Weak spring on honeywell thermo. won't shut off because spring reacts slowly... sound familiar to anyone?

Been in the HVAC business 20+ years and this is a new one. Helical (spring) type thermostats can not be repaired. If you decide to replace it be sure power to furnace is OFF before starting.

Is sounds like you wired it correctly, The black is a little unusual perhaps its blue, anyway, try disconnecting the wires from the thermostat and see if it shuts off. If so, then it may need to re calibrated. I will need some more info to help you anymore.
