Question about Hitachi 42V715 Rear Projection Television
Replaced light engine and screen is bright again.......remote will only turn tv on/off. Menu functions, input functions, and all others do not work......rechecked connections x 3! What am I missing or what did I break?
The problem you have sounds like a "communication" problem.
If we presume you did everything correctly etc it may be a issue related to the new engine.
I have encountered several Samsung, Sony, and other models that when the new optical engine was installed there were new or different issues.
The most common cause of this is the Light Engine communicates with the set's main processors or microprocessors. IF there is no communication between them remote and or keyboard functions will be missing or not working.
Most of these sets I had to contact Technical Assistance by the company involved--sometimes I could find the answer on the Technical website most companies have for authorized service centers for their brand.
I had a Sony that had a large blue band across the bottom (a burnt engine inside) and when replaced the problem was gone but the color looked yellow.
In every case it required going into the hidden tech menu and doing something to trigger communication between the optical engine and the set's microprocessors.
Hitachi is one of the very few I do not have access to their site as the company I work for does not do warranty work for the brand.
If I was you I would take the time to call Hitachi and spend some time on the phone to find someone who is a tech assist person who will know if this procedure is available for your set.
I also presume you got the engine from Hitachi and not some secondary vendor....
Let me know if you have questions.
I have been in the same position you are in right now several times....replace some major part etc and the old problem is gone but a new issue is there.....either something done wrong, a new defective part, or in your case maybe a issue that just needs to be addressed.
Hitachi when I worked for another company who did authorized work for them has and had a very good group of technical support people. I can try and get a phone number and or email for them if you need it.
Let me know if I can help---it is the reason I am here.
