Question about Network & Wireless Adapters
I bought my brother an Acer Aspire T180 last October. It's os is Vista. Anyways when his free Norton AV ran out ...I removed Norton and installed Kaspersky Internet Security software version 7. Suddenly his computer would go offline all the time and he couldn't get on the internet. He had to reboot his computer 3-10 times to get an internet connection. He has a dial up high speed dsl internet provider. When I called the internet provider they said that the network card is not functioning because I was getting ERROR 814. When we went into device manager all three drivers under network adapters had yellow exclamation marks through them. I know nothing about computers, but the internet provider said that, that was the computer's problem not theirs. He said I would have to reinstall the drivers for the network card and hopefully the computer will be able to get an internet connection the first time without having to be rebooted several times. This problem happened right after I installed Kaspersky. Did this Anti Virus software clash with the Vista drivers and corrupt them some how? Also 2 of the drivers look identical (6T04 adapter) is written twice under network adapters in device manager. Should I remove Kaspersky and just install AVG free anti virus? Is it easy to reinstall the drivers? I tried calling Acer today but hung up after waiting on hold for over an hour. Any help would be appreciated but remember techies you have to use simple language for me to understand. Sorry. My brother just wants to be able to surf the net. Thanks in advance.
Hello, It sounds to me like there is a conflict between the Kaskersky and Vista. I'd un-install and use Avast but AVG is a Good Anti-virus also. Vista is sometimes a nightmare. I have problems with certain flash-drives which will not work in Vista. They freeze up the computer. It's Vista. Hope this helps. Good luck.
