Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

We have a 2 year old home. One of the GFIs in the garage is not working after a thunder storm. When I push the reset button the green light comes on for only a fraction of a second. Husband is out of town. Help! This is where I plug in my second refrigerator!

I was afraid of that. It's strange how it didn't affect the other GFIs in that same garage or on the other side of the wall. But lightening is most likely the problem since it wasn't a problem until then. Thank you very much for your quick reply!

Ok, the GFI, has failed due to a surge, spike or other anomaly, caused by the storm, most likely from a lightning strike, or similar. Unfortunately, there is NO repairing, this unit. You WILL have to call an Electrician, to replace this GFI. As a workarround, you could try an "Extension" cord, back, to another GFI. Or for a temporary, solution, if possible, you could use, a simple extension cord, plugged into a normal outlet, until you get it fixed properly. But as said, you need an Electrician, to attend to this matter.

Check whether the power outlet has power. If it has, I suggest please do not attempt to switch on the TV, unless checked by a qualified service technician.

The green light on the motor unit is an LED and random flickering is normal. Your problem is most likely caused by an electrical storm or power surge. You will need to remove the logic board from the motor unit and check for burnt or missing traces on the printed circuit board especially around the small transformer. Your holding that button in will most likely have erased the memory of the unit and all your remotes will need to be programmed once you find your problem. I really suggest you call an technician at this point.

If when the door reverses the main light flashes 10 times you have a problem with the door sensors. Make sure they are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. They must be pointed at one another for both lights to be on. If you cannot get the lights to come on you have a bad logic board.
