Question about GE JTP27 Electric Double Oven

2 Answers

I have a GE Electric Built In Oven. Model Number JTP27WA2WW. The upper oven unit will start to heat up and then the display will go blank and eventually light up again. The upper oven has never been able to self clean without having an error code stop the process. Wondering if it is the sensor, fan and oven control ERC ?

I have disconnected the power before by throwing the breaker and had not resolved the self cleaning part of this problem. The fan has not started with the new problem of the upper oven coming up to temperature then the ERC going blank and going off line. I am assuming as it does not get that hot that it is the ERC.

I do already have a part view and can order the part I just do not want to replace piece by piece and was looking more if you thought it was the ERC or a problem with the fan or sensor causing the failure.

  • crossmankbc May 03, 2010

Sounds like a logical approach, however the oven also has an error message when self cleaning, is this associated with the ERC or something different ?

I believe this information is helpful and have no problem replacing ERC however I feel I have additional issues that may or may not be associated with the ERC. In any event information on replacement is very helpful.

Most often the control panel fails on these models. In order to fix it, the control panel has to be replaced. This is a very simple job and you will need just a 1/4′ nut driver and a Phillips screwdriver.

Instructions:

  1. Always turn off the circuit breaker first.
  2. Open the oven door on the top and remove three screws from the bottom of the control panel. If the control panel on your oven is made of stainless steel, then you will have to pull the oven out of the cabinet out about 2′ to 3′ to get better access.
  3. Pull the control panel forward and up to remove the tabs on the top of the frame, out of the holes in the end caps. Pull the control panel out and turn it about 90° toward yourself (the face of the control panel down).
  4. Unplug the control panel ribbon from the ERC.
  5. Remove four screws holding the ERC to the control panel.
  6. Remove the screw which attaches the ground wire to the control panel. Let the ERC hang on its wires, remove the old control panel and replace it with the new one.
  7. Remove the end caps and the bottom shield from the old control panel and install them on the new one. Do not forget to plug the new control panel ribbon into the ERS slot.
  8. Attach the new control panel to the oven and turn the circuit breaker on. Set the time of the day and you are back in business.

It could be displayed in any mode: “cook”,
“clean” or even more often in the “time of the day” mode. The error code “F7” may be be displayed along with a beeping sound if
    the
ERC (Electronic Range Control) or “clock” senses one or more buttons on
    the control panel stuck.

We have a new GE Range and the signal beeps at about 100 degrees below the temp which we have set . The dealer replaced the sensor and the control circuit, but there was no change.
A service tech from GE came to our house and explained that the new ovens have a bottom heating element which is covered and therefore heats the lower part of the oven more slowly; but the exposed upper element heats more rapidly and the sensor is located near the upper element. We were advised to wait for about 15-20 minutes after the beep before placing the food in the oven. Judging from the number of comments found online, this seems to be a feature of newer ranges.

Hello!
This blank display is a common control board problem. If the buttons beep when pressed, then the control board is getting adequate power. If the buttons beep.. and your oven light still turns on when the oven door is open.. this a text book control board failure. We at Fixyourboard.com can solve this problem for you, and back the remanufacture with a two year warranty.
