I need to change the aspect ratio on my polaroid TV

I need to change the aspect ratio on my polaroid 42'' hdtv. I bought the TV 3 years ago. When I bought the TV, I worked for a satellite TV provider. So I just hooked my receiver into the TV. I now use my off air antennae for TV. (lost my job) But the aspect ratio is incorrect. The picture is too big for the screen The remote that came with my television has an aspect ratio adjustment button. But the remote is defective. Apparently the geniuses at Polaroid decided that the remote would be the only option for changing the aspect ratio. Using the menu button located on the side of the TV, I can not locate the aspect ratio adjustment. I once heard someone say that ''you get what you pay for''. And this was the cheapest 42'' TV available 3 years ago. If anyone has any ideas, other than buying a new TV, please let me know. Thanks

SOURCE: Wrong aspect ratio LCD tv: Model Polaroid FLU-1911S

You cant change the aspect ratio. Polaroid built this unit with a non-standard format. Here is what I found:

Don't be thrown off by other wide-screen aspect ratios. When shopping for wide-screen displays--especially flat-panel LCDs--you may see aspect ratios such as 15:9 or 16:10. They are, for all intents and purposes, close enough to 16:9 to be considered synonymous. Unless you're extremely sensitive to geometry, it's doubtful you'll notice the slight stretching or squashing they introduce.
Sorry!

A simple question - My new 42" LG tv is fine -

You should be able to change the aspect ratio to fit the size of your screen. This will be the 16:9 4:3 16:10 settings.

You can access these by going to MENU---> PICTURE -----> Select ratio that works----> exit out and watch TV.

IF this will not fix it you need to look into the signals being fed to the TV as sometimes they can have a funny effect on the output picture. Some cable boxes will alter the picture and then it won't come out right on the TV. If it is all inputs doing this tho then changing just the Aspect ratio on the TV should solve the problem.

LG 47'' LCD HDTV 120Hz - Incorrect Picture Width

I just had this problem and got it solved. The issue is that your cable box is likely set to the wrong aspect ratio, so your tv will not be able to display the picture properly without this setting changed. On my cable box(Pace), you need to turn the power off to the cable box using the remote. Then hit the menu button on the remote and a new menu will appear on the screen. Change the aspect ratio to 16:9 and you should be all set. Hope this works for you too.
