Question about Computers & Internet

Bios/power-on password unknown, toshiba satellite 5205-s503. will not boot to ANY thing since password prompt is at the VERY FRONT of post. disconnected and shorted rtc battery, no effect. disassembled unit, shorted solder points under keyboard marked ''reset'' with and without power. tried many variations of maneuvers to no avail. cannot locate cmos chip, evidently it is solder mounted to mainboard. Toshiba tech mentioned ''a device'' was used in the reset process, prolly don't know what he's talking about but I have done all that most vcr repairmen would do LOL Help, please :)

Hello,
There are 2 ways you can reset your biosbios/power-on password unknown, toshiba satellite - 2_bing.gif.

1. On the motherboard there is a small watch battery2_bing.gif. Remove this battery along with the power cable from the power supply. Hold down the power button to fully discharge the system. Wait 2-3 minutes then reinstall the battery2_bing.gifplug in2_bing.gif your system. Your reset is now complete

2. Some motherboards have a 3 pin jumper by the battery. Lets say that the jumper is on pins 2 and 3. Remove the jumper while the machine is OFF and place onto pins 1 and 2. Power on your machine for a minute. (Note: Your system will not POST). Shutdown your machine and put the jumper back to pins 2 and 3. Ybios/power-on password unknown, toshiba satellite - 2_bing.gift is now complete

This is a great troubleshooting step for those of you having POST issues or no POSTing at all. Like other troubleshooting2_bing.gif steps, this will not always work but usually will depending on the problem.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns.
Thanks.

Try plugging it into a different outlet. If that doesn't work, test your ac adapter. Check the voltage for 19.5v.

Forget password bios toshiba satlite 5205

To reset the BIOS read the information from this link.

In case of your Toshiba Satellite laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

Hi,
You will need the restore cds that came with your laptop. Insert the restore cd in your dvd drive and restart your computer. When the message "Press any key to boot from cd" press enter.
Then follow the on screen instructions to restore your computer.

I cant get it to let me change the boot setting so i can boot from cd

The moment you turn on your computer start taping F12 key on your keyboard, It will lead you directly to boot menu where you can select CD rom as your boot device, if that doesn't work that go to BIOS and under Bios you will either see "boot sequence" or "Boot" options from where you can change the sequence of your boot devices.

Toshiba satellite 5005-S504 boots over and over and over non stop

It sounds like the hard drive is dying. I had a computer do the same thing and it turned out to be the hard drive. You should still be able to access the bios though. Try hittind either delete or F1 as soon as your toshiba screen appears.

Toshiba 5205-S503 Laptop- No power

- You may want to try to reseating all neccessary things on the system like optical drive, hdd, memory but before you do that disengage the power from the system like the ac and battery.

-If no..go try to remove the optical drive first and then turn the system on, then if the system boot without the optical drive shut it down and put back the optical drive and boot to bios and load the default setting and boot the system normally.
