Question about Kenmore 23913 Progressive PowerMate Bagged Canister Vacuum

Kenmore Progressive Model # 116 25914507

A sock was sucked into the vacuum only wrapping around the roll brush. I immediately cut the vacuum off and pulled the sock out (the sock was not sucked into the hose). When I turned the vacuum back on the motor is not turning over. The main floor attachment is not turning for carpet use. The vacuum suction still comes on however the brush never turns. Please help.

I sucked up a ribbon, no apparent damage done, but the carpet attachment will not function anymore. It still has suction but the wheel doesn't run.

When I turn the yellow dial to 'floor' I get no suction.. if I turn the dial to 'Tools' I get good suction.

The "Power Brush" attachment for upholstery doesn't spin or pick up anything. Have disassembled the attachment, nothing clogged or stuck in it and there's nothing clogging the vacuum or hose. Vacuum works fine on floors and if just using hose without the attachment it has good suction. As soon as I put the "Power Brush" attachment on, there's no suction, the brush inside the attachment doesn't move... basically it does nothing.

The vacuum is plugged in, but when I push the button to turn it on it does not turn on. The attachment for the carpet turns on.

I had the same problem with my vacuum. I called in for technical service and was told to push the "reset button". It turns out that there is a small red button right next to the dirt indicator light. I pushed the button, plugged the vacuum back in and started it up and it worked like a charm! :) Hope this helps!

Sucked up a string and now roller isnt moving

turn the unit off and unplug it - get a razor blade - turn the unit on its side or back which is easier for you to see the bottom of the cleaner and the string wrapped around the ball and connecting area - use the razor blade to cut only the strings and remove the string from the ball

Did you press the reset button? There will be a reset button either on the back of the unit just below the bulkhead or on the top side of the base.

Locate the reset button and press; this should allow the carpet attachment to resume operation.

Go to, click on the parts link, enter your full model number, then scroll down and there are several options to clikc on, a parts list and picture parts breakdown are there and if a manual is available, you can get it and parts thru this site. There is a overload switch for the brush roll motor, if tripped then it won't turn. Could be that the brush roll motor is bad. The motor and brush roll are put together as one unit, but you can get the motor by itself.

Check the hose and dirt inlet for a blockage. Also the brush roll, check it to see if you can turn it or not by hand. If not, then something may have jammed it.
