    Is this an easy repair?

  • rodriguezdc May 03, 2010

Is it called a start switch relay? The closest part I found is the power relay. Could excess lint or overheating cause this problem?

  • rodriguezdc May 03, 2010

Thanks, i'm concerned because the dryer was heating up quite a bit before it broke. there was a lot of lint in the cabinet. maybe it was a coincidence that the relay went bad. Are you pretty confident that it is the relay?

  • rodriguezdc May 03, 2010

If the moisture sensor is bad, would it have the same symptoms as the bad starter relay? my concern is that someone posted on partselect.com that a week after replacing the starter relay the dryer failed again...upon inspection he noted that the control panel was burned so he bought a new dryer. my dryer is fairly new, however we have had a ventilation issue (that i neglected) for quite some time. I am almost positive that the overheating was the culprit. Does that sound more like moisture sensor, relay or both?

The relay conjoining to the start switch is at fault. Replacing it will get this dryer going again

    For some, yes

I would GOOGLE the model number and the name of your dryer to see is a free service manual can be downloaded to help you through this repair

Power relay is the same name for it. Lint will not harn it unless the lint was wet or moist that will short it out

Since you have this apart replace the moister sensor as well. It may have degraded somewhat since the relay is out. The moister sensor is a safeguard item as well as a auto shut off switch when the clothes are dry. If the vents get full of lint the sensor will shut down the heat as well to prevent a fire to start inside of it

That is why I suggested to replace both items for most dryers are neglected. If one item is replaced the other may go bad very soon also. Whe I first started to repair appliances my old boss told me to replace what was needed only. About half of the repairs lasted only a month or so when the customers called back stating the repairs were not done correctly. They were done correctly by my bosses directions although after 4 years working under him I found he knew other items were ready to go out as well. He would save parts and try to rebuild them as well and have me install then as new. After finding out what he was doing I quit and started my own business. I rather have happy customers that call me back with friendly questions and work for me than complaining how shabby my repairs work was done.
Replacing both items will do the trick and you will save a lot of cash instead of calling a repair man out
    Take care now

My Kenmoor dryer will not start. When pushing the

send model number, an even heat board would cause this,or you can unplug dryer and open console on top and see if the even heat board is in there, check it for burn marks, there should be a tech sheet in the console that will help you out but put it back,if you have to call someone in to work on your dryer and the tech sheet is gone they might not be able to help you, there is a relay part 3405281 could be in there, there are actually two of them, there is a heat relay and a motor relay, you can change them out as they are the same part and see if motor stays running,if so change out the motor relay, but i need model number to look up your dryer

Will not stay started unless the start button is depressed

THERE ARE TWO RELAYS INSIDE THE CONTROL PANEL. ONE IS FOR THE HEAT, AND THE OTHER FOR THE MOTOR. SWAP THE TWO, IF THE MOTOR STAYS RUNNING AND THE HEAT DOESN'T COME ON, THEN YOU KNOW YOU HAVE A BAD RELAY

90 series will not stay running or heat

DO NOT KEEP THE BUTTON PUSHED IN AND RUN IT...It's the motor relay and the even heat board in the console. By keeping the button in, you're bypasssing a safety feature and could cause fire. It won't heat like that anyway. Repl. the relay witht the small blue wires and the board in the console and you should be fine.

Must hold start button to run. no heat

disconnect power and remove lid. Test the door switch w a volt meter do so opening and closing the door not pushing switch if circuit stays open try pushing switch with finger. If pushing closes circuit then adjust switch. If circuit stays open replace switch. If switch operates with no problems then it is the motor. Check all connections and vacuum lint from motor

Dryer shuts off when releasing start button. Will run while pressing down start button, but no heat is generated. Sears repair man wanted to replace Even Heat Control Board for $350. I bought the part...

replace the motor, as you are holding in the start button you are making the dryer run in the start winding of the motor, it is designed to only stay in this winding untill the centrifigual switch on the motor automaticaily switches it to the run winding, when the motor switch knows that it is using the run winding it closes the motor switch contact for the heater to come on, replace the motor
