The reason the unit is "eating" tapes, is that the takeup side of the unit is slipping allowing the tape to accumulate inside. This is usually casued by a bad belt that has dried up and is slipping. While a relatively simpe repair, getting to it is a bit tricky. Expect a parts cost in the $10-$15 range for belts (all should be changed).

Hope this helps,
Dan

Have a toshiba tp 61H95 proj TV- want to connect panasonic dvd recorder and toshiba vhs recorder so I can copy family videos to dvd- can't get hook ups set up for both to work.

Select AV-1 or some thing in TV and plug DVD recorder Video-Audio output in AV-1 input of TV, playback any DVD and confirm its picture and sound in TV. Press Stop button of DVD recorder to stop playback.
Now plug Video-Audio output of VCR in DVD recorder input and select AV Input in DVD recorder, insert VHS tape in VCR and playback it and confirm you get VHS picture and sound in TV via DVD recorder.
Hookup between TV, DVD recorder and VCR is completed.
Playback VHS tape in VCR, Insert blank DVD disc in DVD recorder and press Record while you see VHS tape picture in TV.
Hope this info will help you.

Go video VR4940 VCR video recording has sound but no picture

You can try cleaning the video tape heads. The vcr has 2 different heads. One for audio which is fixed and a drum head for video with 2 heads on it that rotate. The best way to clean them is to take a lint free cloth ad wrap it tightly around your finger. Put some alcohol on the cloth and place it on the drum. Then rotate the drum as you hold your finger against the drum. DO NOT move your finger up and down as you can brake the head off. The other option is to go buy a head cleaning stick. It's a piece of chamie on a plastic tongue depressor. I've cleaned hundreds of them with my finger though. You can clean the whole tape path with the rag. Good Luck.

Try adjusting tracking to detent Sounds like audio heads are miss aligned . Does your unit have audio levels if so turn them up when recording. Try adjusting tracking or try patching recording unit to the tv .If it has L/R video inputs use the same deck you recorded on for playback. .

Unable to record or playback VCR tapes

All you can do by yourself unlesss you are a tech. Is run a head cleaner tape through it. It sound like a dirty head to me. Here is something a lot of people do not know, The video head and the audio head in a VCR are two separate heads. thats why you can loose picture and not sound. Best taken apart and cleaned manually with rubbing alchol but not advisable if you are not experienced due to high voltage and if cleaning improperly you can damage the unit worse. Good Luck

Video tape gets eaten on rewind

Does the machine play tapes well? Clear steady picture and all? No tracking bars? wavering sound? Tape chewing is generally a problem with a bad Capstan Pinch Roller, Associated symptoms are as above. Please do recheck or confirm if any of the above problems are also present.
