Dishwasher lid stuck

Top drawer of dishwasher would not open easily. when opened, would not close. it appears that the lid is stuck in the closed or partially closed position and the drawer cannot be pushed in. i tried the troubleshooting in the book, but nothing is working. the drawer is not locked.

I unplugged the dishwasher and plugged it back in. Can't remember whether the lid released after I unplugged it or when I plugged it back in, but it released immediately.

The lid released when the power was turned off - when I unplugged it.

The lids on dishdrawers are pulled down and sealed by lid activaters. there r two types, the screw type and the magnetic solonoid type. the reason your draw gets stuck is your lid activator is not releasing. there are 2 reasons for this 1st- 1 or both activators are faulty. 2nd the lid activator control board is faulty, which is located under the bottom drawer.pull the draw out and see if u can see if the lid is down on 1 side or both sides.please reply 4 more help.

Testimonial: "Thanks Luisa! We replaced the lid activator 2 years ago - it cost us $250. The problem has occurred twice since. We were able to trigger the lid to open by unplugging the dishwasher and plugging it back in. Symptom is cured, problem is not. How hard is it to replace lid activator?"

not to hard.sounds like you have the solonoid type.had a think about the problem, did your lid activators release after the power was turned off? need to know answer because it might not be lid activators

  • luisa_sgro May 06, 2010

sorry to ask u this question again, but i need to know if the lid activators release when the power is turn off. it could be activator board or the activator itself. please reply and we can fix this problem quickly.

  • luisa_sgro May 07, 2010

ok sounds like your control module, the one you select the cycles on. each drawer has one. but to be 100% sure of the fault it would be wise to get a service tech to check module and qoute for the repair. if it was the activators they would not activate or release with power on or off. if u decide to get qoute please reply and i could help you change faulty part that is causing the fault. my best guess without seeing unit is the control module. please reply 4 more help if needed good luck

Why is the bottom drawer stuck?

Is this a Fisher Paykel Dishdrawer?
If so, the lid is likely not returning properly to the upmost position.

Caused by faulty lid actuators, easily fixed by replacing them.

Try not to open and close forcefully as it will damage the rubber seal (built into the lid), then you will also have to replace the lid.

My dishwasher fisher pykel twin dish washer model # DD 605 , SHOWS AN ERROR CODE f7 first then shows error code f9

The top dishdrawer is hard to open or close as the lid seal actuator motors are most likely faulty or lost power. The scraping is the lid seal touching the drawer lid. The F7 and F9 error are a result of this fault with the actuator motors.
At the base of the dishwasher housing under the bottom drawer is the power board. From there the power is supplied to the controller and the motors. These motors move the lid seal into position. First turn the mains power to dishwasher off and then back on. See if this resets the motor position. If not you will have to call the technician to fix the problem. But if you are technical savy you could go to the base of the dishwasher and take the connectors of drawer 1 out from the power board and swap with drawer 2 which is working.
If power board connection is not making any difference, then motors are the likely problem. Needs a lot of expertise to replace and adjust the motors.

Opened the drawer while it was running now the drawer will not close

Turn off the mains power and back on and see if there is any change.

The drawer lid is stuck in close position when you opened the drawer. Try to select another program on the panel and see if it clears the stuck lid.

Fisher Paykel drawer stuck closed how to fix.

Turn the mains power off and force pull the drawer slowly.. No jerky movements. The lid seal is stuck. Once open, check for any damage to lid seal by running fingers on the underside of the top of cabinet where the drawer slides in. Turn mains power back on. If the drawer does not slide back in then it is likely the lid seal actuator motor is stuck or power to motor has failed. Will need technician involvement to fix. If lid seal looks torn then it will need to be replace. Can cause leaks and further faults otherwise.

Dishdrawer cannot open

the power board at the base of the dishwasher under bottom drawer appears to have blown up. Take the bottom drawer out carefully to access the power board. Make sure the mains power is turned off.

The reason the bottom drawer is not getting back in is that lid seal actuators are stuck as the motors are in close position. Will reset to normal position once the power is restored. So don't try to push the drawer in as the lid seal will be damaged.

How can I reset this?

The lid actuator motor is stuck which may be causing the lid seal to obstruct the movement of the drawer. If the problem is still there then first thing to do is try turn off the mains power at the switch and push the drawer in. If this does not work even when you turn the power back on, then post a reply. Normally I would not recommend trying the diagnostic sequence unless one is familiar with working with appliance controllers. This is a very sophisticated dishwasher and any wrong sequence in the diagnostic can either damage the dishwasher or cause flooding. Best to leave it to the technician.

Top drawer of my 8yr old fisher paykel dishwasher got stuck opening and now cant get it back in , botom drawer works but no power to top drawer can it be fixed ?

Not sure if your dishwasher problem has been fixed yet.

The lid seal actuator motors on the top drawer are stuck due to lack of power and therefore you cannot close the drawer. Don't try to force it in as this will cause damage.

First thing to do is to restore power to the drawer. The power comes from the filter board sitting at the base of the dishwasher. You will have to disconnect power to the dishwasher and get both the drawers out. This will give you access to the power filter board.

Refer item 15 in this diagram. It is likely the board is faulty and it supplies the lid seal actuator motor power to both drawers. (separate connections).

You have to take the front cover of each drawer out to remove the drawers from the rails. But be careful not to damage the cable and hose when pulling out. Keep a chair or something next to dishwasher to hold the top drawer.

Once you fix the filter board and restore power to actuator motors, push the lid seal up by hand to make sure it does not block the lid.
Hope this fixes the problem.

Hi all the lights are flasing and top draw is stuck on my DD605 have switched on and off at the plug but still draw will only open if you really pull it -bottomdraw fine - any thoughts?

the lid that closes down to seal the drawer is stuck down. two things will cause this, either the lid motors or the main board that controls them. it is a simple enough repair but with these dishwasher drawers it is better to get a professional out to fix it. all parts twist and click on and are very easy broke giving you extra cost.

Sounds like the lid is not opening all the way. Rubber may be coming off lid seal during opening and closing. Check you lid actuators replace both right and left if needed.
