Go to the menu that allow you to change the voice on your GPS. Select a different voice that has TTS at the end of the voice name. This should allow you to hear street names as well *** your destinations

The previous tip is some what correct other then they haqve forgot to mention, your gps must use a computer generated voice to pronounce street names..a human voice can not do that..if you do not have any computer (TTS) on your gps..download the Garmin web updater HERE and install it on your computer and follow the directions..there is probably an update for you garmin also...after that has installed, click next and select a computer voice to install on your garmin

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Press the wrench/tools button at the main menu. Select the icon with the lips (language). You should see (2) buttons labeled American English. The first one makes all of the text on the Nuvi in the English alphabet. The second button is for the voice. If it just says "American English", then it will only say "Left" or "Right". Press this button and select a TTS voice (Text to Speech), like Jill, Jack, Daniel.....etc. That will give you back your street names.

I just purchased similar model (Nuvi 265W) and experiment for sometime. The trick is on the language option with or without TTS.
Select Setting from menu, go to language and pick the Voice option. Select any one of the language with TTS (Text to Speech) and save. Those that without (TTS) will not talk "street name", this is why some cheaper model can't speak street name, only turn-by-turn instruction, like nuvi model 205.
