Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Noisy pump This is supposedly the quietest washing machine. It is until the pump comes into operation. It pumps incessantly for up to ten minutes before the spin operates and it is extremely noisy. I have had an Hotpoint engineer visit and he brusquely said that this is normal. I wouldn't have purchased it if I had known this. My previous Zanussi was much better. Was the engineer correct?

It depends on the design, the way it is mounted on the machine matters a lot.

Sometimes pump makes noise due air trapping. Check your water flow. Add 10 liters of water in the chamber direct and close the door. start the machine in usual way. If there is no noise it is air trapping in the impeller.

Try removing the plug or switching off the washing machine and leave it for about ten minutes. Hopefully this will reset the electronics and allow normal operation again..

Error code F-21

this code means a long drain meaning if it takes over 8 minutes to drain it will show this code and possibly "suds" code too, first try unplugging the washer for 30 minutes as this clears the central control unit if this is the case,if this doesn't help then check the drain pump located below the washer tub for any obstructions such as coins etc.if this isn't the case make sure drain pump is operating and not noisy,if it is then the drain pump needs replacing

When on spin cycle makes noise & water comes out under machine. How do you take off back of machine to get to the pump area ?

Possible drum bearing problem , seals leak into bearing chamber and beyond , bearings seize and become noisy. Pumps get noisy but rarely leak.

Check the pump drive belt. It may have come off.
Sounds like the motor is spinning but the pump belt isn't spinning the pump.
Pull the front cover and look under the machine for the belts.

Very loud noise when washer is in wash mode,

IT COULD BE SOMETHING IN THE TRANSMISSION. DOES IT AGITATE AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO? IF IT DOESNT, I WOULD SUSPECT THE TRANSMISSION, IF IT DOES, i WOULD START BY LOOKING AT THE PUMP. THERE IS A PIECE OF METAL THAT HOLDS THE BEARING CENTERED IN THE PULLEY OF THE PUMP. OVER TIME, THE METAL CAN COME OUT AND MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BOTTOME OF THE PUMPS MOUNTING PLATE CAUSING QUITE A NOISE. ALSO, DEPENDING ON WHEN YOU BOUGHT YOUR WASHER, THOSE MACHINES HAD A TEN YEAR PARTS WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION.

Not spinning

I found my Classixx 1200 express with a flashing spin light, the water wasn't up in the drum, so I moved the selector to rinse, and pressed start, pump was noisy but worked, I could hear water going into the drain, thinking I'd got a blockage in thye pump, I drained machine using small hose and inspected the pump orifice at the front of the machine (towel handy to catch spillage.
No obvious blockage and the pump could be turned by hand, tried rinse again with water feed turned off, (otherwise it pumps for a while and then lets water in to rinse - which comes out the open pump housing!) I could see the pump impeller spinning but also sticking, its was also noisy.
Solution - new pump, according to my local spares shop, the pump is available as either motor & impeller (back half), or complete with black housing that the pipes fit to, to get the front cover off, and to remove the pump, you need a "star" screwdriver or key, and a pair of pliers to undo the hose clips - have a bowl ready to catch the water, and make sure the machine's unplugged before you start!
