Do you have the lastest drivers for your chipset (motherboard) installed? are you using the front or rear USB ports? If you're using the front then make sure the front panel USB ports are actually plugged into the motherboard.

Ok, try the device in another computer, if the same error comes up in another computer or more, you most likely have a faulty usb device or a loose connection. is this a usb memory or?
