Question about Televison & Video

2 Answers

I now have Picture. If I take the CRT board (connected to the pins of the CRT) off the TV stays on and I do not get two blinks indicating B+ overcurrent but the power light stays on indicating OK. If I connect the CRT board (C Board) I get green colors, a lightning storm urrupts inside the picture tube and then after a single burst inside the picture tube the TV shuts itself off and the set blinks twice indicating B+ overcurrent. (set is SONY KV27S42 BA4D) Note that I just put in a new flyback transformer and now have High Voltage but I have not performed set adjustment that is supposedly needs to be done after the installation.

I have already replaced CRT Drive IC1751 (TDA6108) on C Board before I replaced the flyback. Is it bad again?

  • schmitt_alvi May 03, 2010

I had the tv working (trying to produce a white screen but had about 10 raster lines on the screen) and then it failed and went back to two flashes meaning B+ overcurrent. I have disconnected CRT Drive IC1751 (TDA6108) on C Board. I disconnected both plugs to the C board with only screen, focus and a wire that goes to the back of the picture tube. I still get two blinks. I found a partial solder joint on a resistor that I soldered. Then the set came up with two blinks all the time. Someone else suggested that I check two high voltage capacitors but I did not check them out. They are electrolytic so they may be pulling B+ to ground. I get 135.7 volts where it should be -- is that B+ or is the 200 v line B+? I think the 135.7 is B+. I will try to be more precise tomorrow. Thanks for all your help.

Hi,
There is CRT Drive IC1751 (TDA6108) on C Board, replace it to fix green color and 2 blinks problem.
Due to that defective chip, CRT shows high bright green color that caused high current drain in power supply so protection circuit activates with 2 blinks (Over Current Protection)
After flyback replacement, all is required to adjust Focus and Screen (G2) volts as both control knobs located on flyback transformer.
Hope this info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

    ========================================================================

Not sure, need to test its supplied volts like +200V
If you have schematics then check volts of IC1751 as mentioned there.
Let me know bit more details of current symptoms to assist you with helpful info.

+135V is +B line where as +200V is cathode supply to CRT board.

My tv will turn on and stay on for about 2 minutes, then it will turn off. Any suggestions if this could be repaired?

Tv have picture and sound within that 2 minutes?Yes,than tv have coldsolder joints some where just resolder the video board connections pins hole socket of the video board connected to the tv CRT-tv tube. The FBT resolder it too.The big black block of plastic witth a red wire with a cap hook up to the CRT-tv tube.U just require a soldering iron and a roll of solders and know how to do basic soldering? Most of the times just require resoldering for FBT-for stronger highvoltage output for the Flyback transformer. The video board CRT-tv tube sockets pins in the connected them both, will solved the problems.

The picture finally went completely out I've had my sony for 17 yrs only other problem was the switch for on and off broke This time before it stopped working it took a long time for it to come on and it...

This problem is not likely to be a CRT socket problem. PLease post the model number of the set along with the count of blinks of the standby light. This light shouldbe blinking a repeated count of blinks. That count will indicate the circuit that is having a problem. Should the light just be continuously blinking, that too indicates a specific problem.

Please provide this additional info and I should be able to assist further.

Thanks,
Dan

After the tv has been off for only a few minutes and you turn it back on the picture will flash on and off for 5-10 minutes and eventualy it stays on and works fine till you turn it off again.

Hmm, you have 2 possibilities that I can think of. First, if the picture color and brightness seem relatively normal, I would replace the CRT driver on the C board. This is attached to the back of the CRT via the pin socket. Second, if you notice a darker picture or faded color during the cycling period... things are not as rosy. This is a good indicator of a High GR (gas ratio) condition. Basically, your CRT is leaking.

Power light blinks and no picture

No picture - screen is empty. Sound is ok
Check IC101 (BA7630F), if video signal comes to input (pin 1) but not present at output (pin 14) then replace this IC
No picture and sound, only a high pitch sound at switch on
Remove horizontal transistor and measure the resistance across any two pins. This value should be no less than 200ohms
Picture fades away few seconds after start-up till no picture. Sometimes no picture at all. Sometimes picture OK for longer. Sound unaffected.
Faulty joints on CRT pcb. Cracked solder joints at tube socket connections on CRT circuit board. Caused variable supply to CRT heaters. Resolder all socket pins to pcb.

Screen white tinted, horiz lines, then shuts off

Not acutally a solution. We are having this EXACT same problem; it started this week. Let us know what you are having done. I've called Toshiba and service reps but they are all quoting a price which is almost half the value of the tv. Have you been able to fix it? We are pretty upset since the 2year warranty recently expired. Obviously, it seems that others are having this problem as well. Email us: briamanda@comcast.net

Mitsubishi WS-65511 Rear Projection Big Box TV resets with a green flashing light every 5 minutes, Then works fine for 5 more minutes (perfect picture). Acts up worse when cold. Warm it up Works hours It's NOT the DM board caps. I've already replaced the DM caps twice. Not the problem. No repairman will look at the set. Too Old. So am I. I could repair it with help. The power supply must have a safety circuit that will shut down & reset if too much draw. I DON'T have a diagram. I'm not sure how to trace it . Which board? If I unplug boards one at a time, Will it damage other boards ? I know it is NOT the 7 DM board caps everyone keeps telling me. I see no burn't parts, No bulging caps. Tapping on components doesn't reset. What kind of component would act up when cold , But not overdraw when warm? This set has the best beautiful picture when it runs. If you can get past the resetting every 5 minutes for the first hour, You can watch it sometimes for 20 hours. I've left it on at night & it is still on the next morning. Change the channel Or raise the volume, And off it goes. Once or 10 times, Keeps resetting. Then on for 4 or more hours, Maybe. I can't afford a new one. It works GREAT ! when it works. I've notice that even when the set is turned off, The green light starts flashing (resetting itself while it's off) , Then stops. Once in a hundred times it will kick off the breaker & you need to push reset with a pin on the front panel next to the green light. It's probably a 10 cent resistor OR a $ 1.00 cap. If I only had someone with more knowledge than me to help. I know how to use a meter & read a schematic. I built a Heathkit 25"TV in the 70's & all my novice ham gear. I'm 64 & not familiar with digital circuits. Can someone help PLEASE ?
