Obviously a serious problem, so don't attempt running it until a certified technician checks it. May just be a spider web in burner tube, but just in case it's a leak, shut propane off at tanks, and have it checked a.s.a.p. by a technician.

Atwood water heater g6a8e lights but flame goes out after 5 to 10 seconds. I replaced igniter / thermocouple and it worked for a while but problem is back. So I need to replace circuit board?

Make sure you pull connector off and clean it and contacts on board. Be sure igniter is in flame good too. Does it have the thermal cut off in-line? Its the little resistor looking piece inside the plastic cover. If it does, and still running a few seconds and going out, remove it from the circuit, and connect wire end to where you removed cut out from, thus eliminating it from the circuit, and test it. If that cures it, replace that cut-out, as it is a safety device in case of flame up, it cuts gas off to prevent fire. Just leave it out long enough to test it.

Atwood G6A manual water heater had gas flare up around the control knob when lighting the pilot. Unit is about 9 years old so repair or replace? works OK & no gas smell.

The gas control is leaking gas around the knob?
The gas control needs to be replaced before causing explosion and/or fire.
Gas control has identifying marks on side.

Check and adjust igniter probe(s) so that they are in front of the flame good. When you say it goes to re-ignite, can you hear, or see spark happening at igniter, but burner just won't catch?

Burner fires but goes out after a few minutes.

Are you 100% sure there is water in it, try opening the pressure relief valve slightly to verify tank is full. If it is full check that by-pass valves at rear of tank are in normal operation position. When you say won't run very long, how long would that be approx.?

The pilot on My atwood water heater will not stay lit after I release the knob. I have replaced the thermocouple and have a nice blue flame.

Did you make sure the connection between the thermocouple and the control is tight and that the tip of the thermocouple is in the flame?

I have atwood GC6aa-9e, will not fire the ignition tries 3 sets

Have you tried temporarily removing the thermal cut-out from the circuit to see if ignites then? It's the little resistor looking thing inside the plastic sleeve/cover that runs to thermostat. Disconnect it from the thermostat terminal, and from wire that is on the other end, and you should be left with a female spade connector at end of that wire. Connect that directly to thermostat terminal where the other part was connected, and try it. If it works, the thermal cut out is no good and needs to be replaced for safety reasons, in case of flame out of control, it blows and shuts gas valve off.

Does yours have the little cut-out diode looking thing in the plastic jacket installed between power wire and thermostat? If yes, remove it from the circuit and connect female spade of wire, to male spade of thermostat,(just removing it to by-pass it) and try it now. Let me know what happens.

Have an G6A-8E Atwood water heater. It Starts fine and shuts down after a couple of seconds. I can see the diode in the control board continue to spark after ignition I replaced the igniter.

If it has the little thermal cut-off in power wire to thermostat (has a little plastic jacket over it) try removing it, and connect female spade from power wire, directly to male spade on thermostat, and see what happens. Also, make sure electrode is positioned in flame good for flame sensing properly.
