Leaky gas tank

My 42"craftman riding mower ( model no. 917.271843) has a moderate leaky gas tank, if only it is filled over a half tank.
Please tell me in detail;
1) How difficult to remove it from under the seat?
2) Is there an easy way to locate the leak without taking out from the chaise?
2) Once found the laeking site, can I fix it possby with epoxy compound ?

There is not much that will stick to a plastic tank. you could get a plastic tank from a bone yard, and be in the same shape you are now, or a boat place where they have all sizes tanks, or sears. Taking it out is fairly easy, Of course you have to take the entire thing apart to get to it. You might be able to sneak it out through the back with just a panel or 2 out of the way. I have tried just about every adhesive made on gas leaks, aside from silly putty and POR, on metal only, there isn't one. A bar of soap will stop it but only temp. Hope this helps.

Normally this caused by a leaky float needle valve in the carburetor; although, if you have a vacuum operated fuel pump it internal may ruptured.

Craftman riding mower quit, ran one side of deck into a dirt bank. No power, the fuse is behind dash, my gas tank is there. Do i remove it?

I unhooked my wiring harness from frame so you can get to the fuse. The gas tank shouldn't be that to remove. 4 bolts and the gas line.

How to remove gas tank from craftman LT1000 lawn tractor it is located under the seat

Hello, removing this tank is easier then it may initially seem. Here are the basic steps:

tilt the seat forward
remove the springs that support the rear of the seat
remove the knob on the transmission shift lever
remove the fuel cap
loosen the bolts under the foot rests (that is all part of the fender assembly)
gently lift the fender assembly to expose the fuel tank(I have used an engine crane type lift to do this)
remove the bracket over the tank
remove the tank

reassemble in reverse order.

If this helps please vote yes, Thank You!

Should the fuel filter have gas in it while running - Craftman lawn tractor - 917.271024

Yes, fuel system is gravity fed. If there is fuel in the tank, there should be fuel in the filter.
