Question about Craftsman 17.5 hp 42 in. Deck Lawn Tractor - CA Model
My 42"craftman riding mower ( model no. 917.271843) has a moderate leaky gas tank, if only it is filled over a half tank.
Please tell me in detail;
1) How difficult to remove it from under the seat?
2) Is there an easy way to locate the leak without taking out from the chaise?
2) Once found the laeking site, can I fix it possby with epoxy compound ?
There is not much that will stick to a plastic tank. you could get a plastic tank from a bone yard, and be in the same shape you are now, or a boat place where they have all sizes tanks, or sears. Taking it out is fairly easy, Of course you have to take the entire thing apart to get to it. You might be able to sneak it out through the back with just a panel or 2 out of the way. I have tried just about every adhesive made on gas leaks, aside from silly putty and POR, on metal only, there isn't one. A bar of soap will stop it but only temp. Hope this helps.
