Question about Tripp Lite HT1000UPS (037332125262) UPS System
The LCD shows that the trip lite is fully charged but when the power goes it shuts down within about 5 minutes. Usually it only has a laptop connected to it, but even if it has nothing connected to it, it starts screaming and shuts down within 5 minutes.
The annoying thing is that the LCD shows that the trip lite has a three quarter charge when it shuts down!! If I try to turn it back on, it again shows a three quarter charge, bleeps, and goes dead.
I have tried it with a lamp with a 40watt bulb, a modem, and a TV, SKY, DVD and all result in the same thing, dead within minutes, so it seems that the amount of equipment attached makes little or no difference to the outcome, which tells me it's a software problem and nothing to do with the battery itself.
Do you know of this type of problem, and is there a solution?

Try leaving it off, but plugged into the wall outlet so the batteries can charge up. If they are new, they are probably without a charge. The instructions should indicate how long it needs to charge - probably most of the day.

Turn UPS on: Press and hold the ON/OFF button for one second.
Run a Self-Test: Press and hold the MUTE/TEST button for two seconds (until alarm beeps several times).
The test will last 10 seconds. All LCD Display icons will be illuminated and the alarm will sound.
If the fault icon remains lit, the battery-supplied outlets are overloaded. Unplug powered devices until you remove the overload.
If the "Replace" icon remains lit and alarm continues to sound, the UPS batteries need to be recharged or replaced. Allow UPS to charge for 24 hours and repeat self-test.
