Hi! It may not really work on first try. Try to run cleaning for several times and it may resolve it. If no luck, please remove the ink cartridge and check the ink cartridge seat if there are dried inks. You may need to clear the residue for it may be blocking the ink flow. Hope this helps and have a good one!

Have you noticed any leakage at the bottom of the printer? The head may be clogged and the ink just goes to the wastepad. In any given time the wastepad will be full and will start to leak. I suspect a faulty head and this may require replacement.

Printer worked fine until yesterday changed ink cartridges now black wont work tried all options

Hello

well changing the cartridges will not effect anything to the printer but the duration taken for replacement will. As in epson if you leave the printer without cartridges will clog the head nozzles. Did you remove the cartridges and turned off the printer and left idle for sometime? if yes then follow the instructions below

1. Print nozzle check test print to know which nozzles are not working
2. Head cleaning from the printer software.
3. Perform step 1 again to see the difference after cleaning

IF NO

Then you have to take the print head out of the printer and clean the nozzles by using hot water in the Syringe and blowing the derbies out of the nozzles.
tip

Print Head Cleaning Cycle

Please confirm that the head cleanings were done using the most effective method listed below.

1. Make sure the printer is turned on but not printing.

NOTE: You cannot clean the print head if the any of the cartridges are expended. Replace the appropriate ink cartridge before proceeding.

2. Load letter size paper.

3. Click on START.

For Windows 95/98/ME: Click SETTINGS, PRINTERS, then right click on the EPSON STYLUS PRINTER ICON. Select PROPERTIES from the drop-down menu. Proceed to Step 4.

For Windows 2000: Click SETTINGS, PRINTERS, then right click on the EPSON STYLUS PRINTER ICON. Select PRINTING PREFERENCES from the drop-down menu. Proceed to Step 4.

For Windows XP: Click CONTROL PANEL, PRINTERS AND FAXES. Right click your EPSON STYLUS PRINTER ICON. Select PRINTING PREFERENCES from the drop-down menu. If this icon is not showing, select VIEW INSTALLED PRINTERS. Then right click the EPSON STYLUS PRINTER ICON. Select PRINTING PREFERENCES from the drop-down menu. Proceed to Step 4.

For Windows Vista: Click CONTROL PANEL, HARDWARE AND SOUND then PRINTERS. Note: these steps may vary depending on how Vista is setup. Right click on the EPSON STYLUS PRINTER ICON. Select PRINTING PREFERENCES from the drop-down menu. Proceed to Step 4.

4. Click on the UTILITY or MAINTENANCE tab, then click on HEAD CLEANING.

5. Follow the instructions on the screen to clean the print head. Cleaning takes about 30 seconds, during which time the printer makes some noise and the power light flashes. Never turn off the printer while the power light is flashing, unless the printer has not moved or made noise for more than 5 minutes.

6. When the power light stops flashing click PRINT NOZZLE CHECK PATTERN and then click NEXT.

7. If the nozzle check pattern has no gaps in its lines, click FINISH. If the pattern has any gaps, click CLEAN to clean the printhead again.

8. If the situation continues after three cleaning cycles and nozzle checks, replace one of the affected ink cartridge(s).

9. Once the cartridge(s) has been replaced, please follow steps one through seven up to three times.

If the nozzle check still has gaps after you have run at least 3 consecutive cleaning cycles and replaced the affected ink cartridge(s), your printer will require service.

***

Use the Printer Driver Utility to clean the print head. Alternatively, try this SSC Service Utility.
Also try changing the affected ink cartridge.
All else fails, your printer will require service.

Problem with printing - streaks yellow and green not all colours are printing, not used for some time but new cartridges have been put in

Follow these steps to print a nozzle check:

  1. Turn off the Stylus CX.

  2. Load letter-size paper in the sheet feeder.

  3. Press the cp_button_48_er.gif ink and cp_button_1.gif On buttons together and hold them down for about 3 seconds.

The Stylus CX turns on and prints a test pattern, which includes anozzle check. Shown below are some examples of what the nozzle checkmay look like.

Nozzle check pattern with no gaps im_158_er.gif
Nozzle check pattern with gaps im_159_er.gif

If any of the colors is missing, perform a head cleaning routine. It appears that the magenta head is having some problem. Try printing again after performing a head cleaning task. If the problem continues you might need to replace the head.

Thank you.

Black ink not printing

You have to run a head cleaning cycle:
Follow these steps to clean the print head:

  1. Make sure the Stylus CX is on and the cp_light_183_er.gif ink light is off.

  2. Hold down the cp_button_48_er.gif ink button for 3 seconds until the cp_light_1.gif On light starts flashing. The Stylus CX runs a head cleaning cycle and the cp_light_1.gif On light flashes.

alert_caution.gif Caution: Never turn off the Stylus CX while head cleaning is in progress. You may damage it.

  3. When the cp_light_1.gif On light stops flashing, turn off the Stylus CX.

  4. Load letter-size paper in the sheet feeder.

  5. Press the cp_button_48_er.gif ink and cp_button_1.gif On buttons together and hold them down for about 3 seconds. The Stylus CX turns on and prints a test pattern, which includes a nozzle check. Shown below are some examples of what the nozzle check may look like:

Nozzle check pattern with no gaps im_158_er.gif Nozzle check pattern with gaps im_159_er.gif

  6. Examine the nozzle check. If it does not look like the nozzle check pattern with no gaps as shown above, repeat steps 2 through 6.

alert_note.gif Note: If you don't see any improvement after cleaning the print head three times, turn off the Stylus CX and wait overnight. This lets any dried ink soften. Then try cleaning the print head again.

If you do not use your Stylus CX often, it is a good idea to print a few pages at least once a month to maintain good print quality.
