I too have this same problem. It just started occuring within the past
few weeks. I boot computer and initially screen comes on but then goes
black - blue light is still on. I have found that if I keep turning the
screen off (blue light) and then back on, eventually the screen will
stay on - but it keeps taking longer and longer for it to not black out
and stay on. It took about 10 tries today before it stayed on.

I began having the same problem last week. Monitor does seem stay on after a few times shutting off switch and turning on.

Same problem here. I can cut off the monitor and wait a minute or two and when I turn it back on will faintly glow and very shortly after wards go blank again. The blue light continues to glow.I have had to send it back to Samsung once already for a similar problem and Samsung replaced the monitor with a reconditioned unit. I would not encourage anyone to purchase one these. .

I have the same problem. The monitor has been running for a year. Symptoms first was it would go dim and wink out when coming out of sleep mode. Solution was to turn off monitor by the front button and then back on. (This only tells the cpu to power down... power supply stays on). It got worse. I had to power down and up multiple times to get it to stay on. So, I told my computer to not go to sleep, stay on. That was ok for about 10 days. Then the monitor went dark. Need to check if the problem is backlight or lcd drive board. However, before I did this... suspecting power supply issue I replaced all the aluminum electrolytic caps(6 of them on main board). This didn't help. I then powered the unit up and verified +13.6v out of the power supply board. Odd voltage. I noted a DIM signal that appears to come back from the logic board to the power board. Probably powers up the backlight supply. Without schematic, no way to know how it works. Can anybody help me at the circuit level on this monitor? Thanks.

I am having the exact same problem. Only it was very abrupt when my monitor failed. I can still see the screen in the background using flashlight. Blue power light also still on.

So what lamps to get, where to find and how to get into the monitor? Those are my next q's

  • wrathchild Mar 31, 2009

My symptoms are exaclty the same as listed below; Monitor begins to have slight difficulty powering on, begin to leave monitor on constantly to combat problem, situation worsens upon monitor completely blacking out screen and refusing to display any image whatsoever but at the same time powering up as programmed to do so. Bought product in Oct. of '06, began to have problems in Jan. of '09....not even 3 years old yet...loved the monitor up until then. Belongs in a landfill.

  • ferdiwright Apr 22, 2009

How do you open the monitor casing without breaking anything; would like to see if I can check the caps as suggested or the lamp.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

  • fire77 Apr 25, 2009

I have the same problem, my Samsung monitor SyncMaster 203B is black upon start up, I can still see desktop with flash light.

    Tantong mentions replacing the lamps.

Would anyone who understand this please be so kind as to tell in very simple details how to do this? I am a little bit handy but I am not a computer tech, do you think I could handle this myself?

    Thank you

Hi this is the way how to examine what's wrong with your LCD monitors. After you turned it on and the screen blacked out or stopped working, you have to check that if you can see the image on the screen or not by shining a flashlight into the screen, not directly but find the best angle to the screen and take a look very closely. If you can see the icons or any image, there will be a minor problem. This is because of the lamps inside screen. Some of them were broken and it is very easy to replace. If you cannot see anything on the screen, there'll be some problems with inverter board. If you have soldering tool and want to fix it by yourself, check the caps first. It may cause this problem. Some caps might show leaking or burn spot on the board because of too high temp. If you don't have soldering tool, you better go get a technician to do so. Hope this help!! If anything I can help you with, feel free to let me know.
Thank you,

So how do I replace the back light in this model? What kind of backlight will I need? Is it possible to buy it?

  • Buddy Mcsparrin Oct 09, 2012

Hello,Did you check the capacitors and fuse on the power supply board first? See my solution below. This is usually the problem with that model. If you checked them and theyare all good then you can get the bulbs from www.ccflwarehouse.com , do a search for the model and it will show you the proper replacement bulbs but you will need to order 4 bulbs for that unit.

Hello,

The power light on and no picture is a common symptom of a power supply that has failed. You can rebuild the power board and revive the unit by replacing the 6 bad capacitors and one fuse on the board. Here is a link to additional information and the capacitors and fuse needed and below is a picture of the power supply board with the parts circled that need to be replaced.

My Samsung 203B went 99% black. The logic worked because DC 13,5 V from inverter IP-43130 to the logic was ok. (The image on the screen was barely visible).I replaced the 820 uF cap in the middle of the inverter board. I also replaced the green 3 A fuse (F301), which resides very close to the cap. The cap was bulged and the fuse was blown.
Now it works fine.

The rectifier with heat sink "fooled" me, looked like short circuit, but was intentional.
Thanks for the hints in the related postings.
Please note that if your monitor lately passed warranty period, Samsung might apply extended period in some regions.

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed SAMSUNG monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Samsung syncmaster 203b problem

Hello,

This is a typical symptom of a failure of the capacitors on the power supply board. When the filter capacitors go bad the power supply can not start up correctly so you get flickering or even no display. You can repair this unit by replacing the bad capacitors and a fuse on the power supply. This is an easy repair, it just requires a little soldering. Here is a lin to additional information on which capacitors need to be replace and also here is a picture of the power supply board with the capacitors and fuse circled.
