If the glass had fallen, it surely interferred with the scanning mechanism. The glass is just snapped in place, and maybe due to excessive pressure it gaved way.You can open it but be very careful as the unit is only held together with fragile latches that easily break. There are slots at the bottom, insert a flat screwdriver and push it gently sidewards. If the rubber belt is not broken, fasten the glass (maybe with some adhesive), reassemble and hope for the best. Good Luck

And the scanner is listed as 4800 scanner Click close Close device manager Open Scan wizard program Scanner works fine. The scanner will not work nativly with windows scanning.
Is your lock/unlock mechinism underneath in the unlock position?
I have a scanmaker 4800 and am assuming ours have basic similarities.
Mine has 2 round magnets that are visible when the glass is removed.
Once they fell out of place when I took it apart and I had to reglue them in. Is anything in the pathway of your carriage rail?(I don't know what else to call it) but a little wheel on the right side slides up and down this rail and maybe one of those little round magnets fell out and is blocking it.
Here is the link to order the driver, however you will need to enter your op system to get the correct one, since you have not entered it here. Please Note:
Turn off and disconnect your scanner.
Before you down load the driver, turn off all running programs including your security/firewall. Go to the the little icons on the lower right and click on them and exit or turn off all that you can. Download the driver to your desktop. It will be an exe file. Then click on it to install and follow directions. If you have not been instructed to connect your scanner during the setup, do so now.
When you are finished restart your computer.
Thank you for using Fix YA! If your problem is solved, don't forget to rate us. Thanks!
Lines in the ourput could be because of dust on the glass, clean the glass. Dont use any solvent. Try and reinstall the software driver after removing the existing. Run Scandisk on the computer. Soem scanners cannot work continuously for long hours.
First thing to do is un install and reinstall the software.
Then consider - what other software could be running the could conflict[A graphics program for example]is to try another software for scanning if available.
The other thing to consider is the age of the scanner- if it is from the DOS era-95/8/ME- then it will like as not not run- there is a firmware problem.
Scanners have a controller chip - DOS era devices are looking for DOS commands - and they are getting NTFS commands- various makers like Microtek tried driver fudges- but they did not work.
It has to be a NTFS scanner for NTFS commands.
