When i unplug the cable from my computer i loose internet connection

Unless your computer also has an active & configured wireless adapter, then disconnecting the Ethernet cable between the computer and the router _will_ cause a loss of Internet connectivity.

The USB port on the printer is loose and therefore not communicating with my computer.

You can open up the printer and try to fix it, but in fact you will probably need a new part which will have to be soldered in.

An easier solution would be to use the parallel port connection, if there is one. Newer printers don't always have them, and I don't think the 3055 has one.

On the other hand, newer printers often have an ethernet connection, and you should be able to use this instead of the USB. I'm pretty sure the HP 3055 has an ethnet port. You'll need an RJ45 wire. You can get a USB to RJ45 adapter if you need to plug the other end of the cable into your PC's USB port (e.g. if your PC has only one ethernet port and you're already using it for broadband).

Hope that helps a bit. Good luck!

I have recently purchased an HP laptop Windows 7. My PC is Windows XP and my Internet provider is the Post Office Broadband. I would like to be able to use my internet connection on my laptop and I...

From the walljack to the modem, use the gray cable.

Disconnect the yellow cable from the modem to the PC.

Use the black cable from the router to the modem (where the PC was originally connected).

Use the 2 yellow cables for the PC and the laptop going to any of the 4 ports of the router.

Hope this helps!

I've installed my wireless router, modelwrt54g2v1, and the yellow ethernet cable is still connected to my laptop, once I remove it I have no connection?

The yellow cable (CAT5) is giving you your internet connection
you will need to follow some steps:
1) Access the routers GUI (usualy by going to a web-page in your Internet explorer EG 192.168.0.1 check the manual)
2) make sure that wireless is enabled on the router + DHCP is enabled
3) at this stage set wireless security here as well (to stop unwanted use of your broadband and people hacking your PC)
4) make sure that the laptop wireless is switched on, sometimes there is both a physical on/off switch and a software/keyboard enable/disable button, disconnect the Yellow network cable
5) go to control panel:network connections
6) right click on the wireless connections icon and then view available wireless networks
7) if you see your network then highlight it and click connect
8) enter the security password (if any) which you set in step3 above.

let me know how you get on
