Hi, I've got the same problem except it only prints half of the photo lengthwise. I've been pretty careful with this device. It just sits on top of the table. Thanks.  ~ Jing

This may be caused by a broken plastic lever for the thermal head inside the printer. This is not particularly difficult to fix, but it not be attempted if you have more than two thumbs.

  • The case is not difficult to open, nor is removing the pc board in the printer, but I suggest getting a service manual on the web for disassembly instructions. Reconnecting the LCD cable is painful. Search for "SPP-2040 service manual."
  • Remove the printer assembly from the case.
  • Remove the PC card from the printer assembly being very careful of the cables.
  • From the top, look at the shaft that controls the up/down motion of the thermal head. At the end opposite the motor, inspect the white plastic lever. There should be no cracks evident, nor should the lever be "loose" with respect to the shaft. If this is not the case, this is not your problem. There is a "flat" on the shaft that should keep the lever from rotating.

  • Remove the "upper plate." Two small screws and a spring at the opposite end.
  • Rotate the lever so that it aligns with the "flat."
  • Using small buss wire (or a paper clip), wrap the wire around the round part of the lever.
  • Twist the ends of the wire tightly and as close to the lever as possible. There is not a lot of space here. Trim off the excess wire and position the wire as shown.
  • Reassemble the top plate & spring.
  • Reassemble the printer & test.
Hope that this has helped. al

Great hint! Not so easy to twist properly the wire, but when done, the printer works again like new... Many thanks for this fix which I would not have found myself!

Installed new cartidge - white down the center of the sheet - print on each side of paper, about an inch wide

Make sure you pulled the seal tape out of the cartridge when you installed it. Remove the toner cartridge and while holding it relatively level shake it from side to side. Re-install the cartridge and test. If it makes a good copy now you are all set. If not then I would return the cartridge and get a replacement under warranty.
I see this all the time with new cartridges. Most of the time it is caused by the toner in the chamber being packed to one side or the other and shaking it from side to side wil even out the toner.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

Epson MX700 fault - piece came loose inside I need advice please on replacing a piece inside my Epson MX700 printer that has come adrift, and how to do it. I recently experienced a problem in the paper...

The piece that you showed in picture looks like it could be your ink absorber pad. This part is usually found at the side of the printer where the cartridges rest after each print job. You can run the printer without it, but if you can find exactly where it belongs it does catch the excess if that drips from the cartridges.

Streaks on printed page full length even after installing new cartridge

Check the glass (the one the paper rests on). The underside of the glass that is. This is what the light 'sees', so, it will print this!

I have a cannon MP160 printer. Color ink button is flashing. The color ink cartridge is empty. I replaced the black ink cartridge and want to print in blank ink only. However, I can't get the color light...

try to go into the software for the printer and find a rest ink cartridge button. This will make it think it has a new one which wil let you print in black by selecting black print only

HP deskjet 970cxi not printing red

Hello, usually the refilled cartridges doesn't work well.

You can try to fix your problem doing this:

1) Put some boiling water into a cup
2) Put the the cartrigde (print surface) close to the water to receive the steam (not inside the water)
Do this just a couple of minutes.
3) Put it back ther cartridge into the printer
4) Align or clean the cartridges with a printer program
5) Try printing again

If still does'nt work buy original cartridges or due the high cost of them buy a new printer.

Please don't forget to rate this solution! Have a great day!
