SOURCE: MP760 - how to disassemble? (waste ink absorber almost full)

You really don't have to disassemble it. What would be helpful tho is some sort of long needle-nose forceps. Tho I bet you could get by with a pointy chop-stick in a pinch. There are two waste-ink absorbers on the right, and one spongy thing on the left. With the 'hood' open, allowing you access to the cartridges, you should be able to see the pads. Get a Petzl light on your forehead, you'll need a lot of light! The sponge on the left is covered by a small clear plastic trough that channels the ink into the sponge below. With enough poking and prodding you should be able to get all these out, rinse with water, dry with a hair dryer, blot out the pad areas with a kleenex, and pop them back in. Good Luck!

Canon IP90 ink pad is full

This may clear the ink absorber problem. There is ink absorbers located at both ends of the printer where the ink head move.
To dry the ink absorber, power up the printer and open the cover so the ink cartridges and print head will move to the middle of the printer.
Then take several sheets of absorbent tissue, fold it into a pad and place it inside the printer over the ink absorber on the far left hand side of the printer to soak up the excess ink. You may need to change the absorbent tissue a few times. Then repeat the same procedure on the right hand ink absorber.
Close the lid and the printer should now function normally.

Where do I Find the ink absorber bottle

Inkjets do not have a bottle for the waste ink. Instead there are two sets of rubber pads that act like sponges. One set of sponges is directly below where the ink cartridges "rest" when the unit is not in use. They absorb the ink from the print head cleaning routine. The other set is at the bottom of the printer. You basically have to disassemble the printer from the top to reach the pads. The pads are in little plastic trays that hold some of the excess ink. If you remove the pads, blot the bulk of the ink off the pads and the trays on some paper towels.

The pads can be replaced or cleaned by rinsing under running water until the water runs clear. Let the pads dry before replacing them. Then you would need to reset the counter for the ink absorber. This involves entering the maintenance mode and depends on the printer model. The most common steps are: with the printer off, press and hold the Resume/Cancel button. Then press the Power on button. Hold the Power button and release the Resume/Cancel button. Press the Resume/Cancel button twice and then release all of the buttons. When you see a green light, press Resume/Cancel 4 times. Turn the printer off and then back on.

However, the components of most inkjet printers are near their expected failure point when the number of pages printed reaches the value that triggers the "ink absorber full" message. If your printer is under warranty and gets this message, contact Canon.

I hope this helps.

(resetting the ink absorber full counter without cleaning or replacing the pads will eventually lead to ink spilling out of the printer.)

WHAT IS AN INK ABSORBER

The ink absorbers are a set of rubbery pads that absorb the ink during the printer cleaning cycle. They can also absorb ink from borderless prints (where the ink goes out to the edges of the paper). Some of these pads are below where the print head goes when in standby mode. Additional pads are further down inside the printer.

To get at them, you need to disassemble the printer and it's a messy job to replace or clean them. The counter for the waste ink pad full is set to a value that usually should be reached near the expected end of life of the printer.

If the printer is still under warranty, contact Canon to have them deal with the problem and reset the printer.

I hope this helps.

Cindy Wells
(You may be able to find the reset command by Googling waste ink full and your model number.)

How can I change the foam pad that absorbes ink? What part is that called?

Hello

Its better to just remove them clean them up and replace it in the printer, because usually some printers require a reset code to re-set the waste ink counter. If the counter is not re-set there will come a time when then printer will refuse to print.

Here is how to clean your waste ink absorber;

Open the printer and locate the waste ink absorber near the ink cartridge.

Remove the absorber pad and hold it in cold water while squeezing the ink out. It would be wise to wear gloves while doing this, because the ink in the pad will leave stains.

Use paper towels to dry the waste ink absorber pad. Let it dry completely before installing it back in the printer.

Reinstall the ink pad into the printer and run a test page to make sure it works.

What is waste ink obserber? How it will be replaced?

waste ink pad absorber is like a waste tank made of absorbent pads, in here the waste ink is absorbed. In time this waste ink pad will be saturated or full. When it happens the printer will suddenly stop working. The printer needs to be reset to function again and the waste ink pad replaced to prevent flooding of waste ink inside the printer. The waste ink pad is replaced by disassembling the printer.

Ink absorber replacement options - MP130 or how do I clean it? It is almost full according to error message

Removing & Cleaning the Absorbent pads.

The printer has 2 ink absorber pads that are located under the ink cartridges.

1. With power off the head assembly / cartridges can be moved into the middle for access.
2. Each of the 2 ink absorber pads are seated in a rubber retainer. The pads can be easily removed cleaned or replaced.
3. Carefully remove the pads using long nose pliers or tweezers.
4. Clean the using with running warm water, or use an isopropyl alcohol bath, or an isopropyl alcohol based aerosol if they are really dirty. DO NOT USE ANY SURGICAL SPIRIT OR ANY OIL BASED CLEANERS. At a push you can use a warm water mild washing up liquid bath but be sure to thoroughly rinse out the solution after cleaning. The pads should be white when they are clean.
5. Dry the pads – it may take some time and placing them in a warm environment or near a warm radiator will speed this up.
6. Clean away any ink on the retaining rubbers using a cotton bud or clean and soft lint free cloth.
7. Replace the DRY pads in the rubber retainers.
8. Replace the Ink cartridges.
9. Power on the printer and print a test page and clean and realign the heads as required.
10. If the E27 error message reappears then you will need to reset this.

Clearing procedures for E27 or Error 27 Code.
