Question about Carrier XHB123D X/Y Series Heat/Cool Air Conditioner

Carrier Weathermaker gas 8000 will not ignite

This gas furnace runs OK some of the time, but will not ignite sometimes unless I switch the thermostat off and on again (2nd thermostat-both problems). May run for days and recycle properly, then quit again.

    1. unit is 5 yr old and wiring has not changed, all connections tight

    2. thermostat sensing seems appropriate

    3. this is the third thermostat, have tried standard mercury switch as well as digital ,with the same results. These last two replaced both this winter.

Comment- something is happening WITHIN the furnace control beyond the thermostat, and is intermittant. Works most of the time, then does not reignite. When the furnace fails to ignite, the exhaust fan runs continuously and has already been replaced. Turning the thermostat off and on recycles the furnace and works well.

I have a Carrier Weathermaker 9300 TS and it does exactly the same thing!

I have had 3 seperate repair companies look at it, clean the sensor, adjust stuff, etc. and they are basically suggesting I replace the furnace all together!! It is only 5 years old, but apparantly this is a real problem with these furnaces.

In order to get mine starting, I have to turn it off at the main switch and then on again. This works only some of the time.

Every couple of days the furnace won't ignite. The new electronic thermostat is flashing for it to start, but it won't until the temperature in the house drops to about 5 degrees C below the setting or if I reset it. Once it starts it will be fine for a couple of days and then do it again. This is getting very frustrating. Any solutions??

I have a Bryant Plus 90 furnace. (15 yrs old) Every couple of days the furnace will not start. I need to turn the power switch off and then back on. The furnace then starts up. It happened a couple of times last winter, I replaced the air filter, SPACEGUARD, and had no further problems. The same problem began a couple of weeks ago, I changed the filter again but every couple of days the furnace will not start. The repair man was here for an hour and could not determine the cause. The thermostat will say "HEAT ON" but furnace is not running. HELP!

3 amp fuse blows when ac is switched on. Heater works fine.

There is a short in the low voltage wires somewhere for sure. The most common place is the low voltage on the outside unit, sometimes animals chew through them or they get cut with a weed eater. Just my experience. You basically have to trace it back all the way to the thermostat and heater. The only other thing is the contactor

I have a Carrier Weathermaker 8000 furnace. it will not light.I tested the igniter on my upstairs furnace and it will glow and light that furnace. I can manualy light the furnace with a match. flame sensor...

If you're sure the igniter is good and the controller is sending voltage to gas valve to open, but not to the igniter then, yes, the controller is bad. The only way to know for sure is to remove the igniter's molded plug from the board and test voltage directly at the board. You should get about 100-120 vac to the igniter.

Flame sensor dirty

Sandpaper lightly scrubbed over the sensor tip to remove any contamination.

Sometimes cleaning is not enough and the sensor must be replaced.

Furnace wont run

First of all when you flip the switch, it goes thru a startup sequence. THEN it turns on the Igniter (notice the red glow). Then the gas turns on.

Now at this point check the idiot light and it should be giving you a code of 34. That 34 (3 shorts 4 longs) says that there was a problem igniting the furnace. After it cycles thru at least 4 times and fails to ignite all the blowers, then is when you get a code 14 (1 short 3 longs)

NOTICE what's happening with ALL the burner Tubes each time it attempts to ignite. If only one or two are running....then this is your problem.
To fix all you do is take out the burner Tubes, look for debris, blow them out (blow from the front where all the jets are), and replace them in sequence from left to right (the tabs overlap).

Carrier Weathermaker SX model 58SX060-CC Blower runs all the time

Remove all power from the furnace, it is likely the brain in the furnace is need of being reset, from the battery replacement, why did you change the battery, was there an indicator telling you to change it?

Many times just removing all the power to the furnace will do the trick with a reset, if not let me know and we will go from there, but it sounds like the main brain is confused or bad, more likely confused, so try the power removed first.

Than let me know wbwill@sbcglobal.net

Your hot surface igniter may be bad. It may be cracked which would prevent it from starting the burner flame.

Carrier furnace weathermaker 8000

. Several times of recyling power normally brings the furnance up. Though the failure code has always been 31, there are several different behaviour when the blower starts after reset :
a. blower simply creases.
b. there is an attempt to start the heating unit (I hear the high pitch noises), then everything stops.
c. there is an attempt to start the heating unit (I hear the high pitch noises), once I see the orange glow from the coil, normally the gas is lit up and the unit starts working.
