Question about Jura Capresso 560 Electric Burr Grinder

5 Answers

After removing and cleaning drop-in portion of burr grinder, I inadvertently put it back in upside down. Realizing my error before trying to operate the grinder, I tried to remove the upside down piece but it's hopelessly stuck. There is evidently some interference that is preventing removal. I turned the whole grinder upside down and tapped it on a flat surface but it's still stuck. Has anyone had this problem?

First of all the solution IS NOT in the manual. Second of all, you shouldn't go taking the grinder apart. It is soooooooo simple. You just have to rotate the black part where the long **** is counter clockwise until it's at about 2 o'clock. The blade slips right off. I saw a post about someone sending it in for repair for this same problem. It must be a lie because this is not a problem that needs a repair solution. It is a very simple fix. No tools no springs popping out at you, no nothing. Again, Just hold onto the black part with the ****. It moves. Turn it counterclockwise to about 2 o'clock. The blade slips off.

I guess they thought that the word I used was not appropriate, so I will say it again. Right around the blade, there is a black section with a long slot. The section moves. Move it counter clockwise to about 2'clock. the blade will slip right out. No tools, not rocket science. Just an easy solution to a mistake.

Thank you so much, allgrace! This totally fixed the problem with my grinder, I am so glad I saw your post!

  • Donna Sutera Nov 08, 2010

You are so welcome ambaccam. I'm glad you checked. Hope it solves the problem for others as well. I came across the solution in a strange way. I put that blade in upside down so many times I can't count, but it never got stuck. So when it did it this time and it got stuck I knew that something wasn't the same. I realized because I just observed for a while. I refused to try to pry unscrew or do anything to my beloved Capresso grinder. I kept looking and checking and I realized that the slot was not where it had been So, even though it didn't look like that part could move I tried it. And it did. I get it came down to NOT freaking out, getting upset and being patient. It worked. Yeah!

    Donna,

Thanks! This worked and solved a frustrating problem. My wife was totally mad because I'd screwed up the grinder before she had her morning coffee! I still don't know why the black part moved (I didn't have the grinder in upside down), but I'm happy with your solution.

Amazing the the Capresso website didn't have this answer to what must be common problem.

    What is the long ****?

  • canpap Nov 14, 2013

me too! what is the long **** and/or the "black part"??

  • Donna Sutera Nov 19, 2013

Will get back to you on this as soon as I get home.... I didn't put ****., the site did and I don't remember without looking at it. It's been a while.

If you click above on "view previous comments, I rewrote the solution because I'm guessing the word that I used was not appropriate. It's been so long, don't remember .

Here is the solution AGAIN: I guess they thought that the word I used was not appropriate, so I will say it again. Right around the blade, there is a black section with a long slot. The section moves. Move it counter clockwise to about 2'clock. the blade will slip right out. No tools, not rocket science. Just an easy solution to a mistake.

Well, that was simple. THANK YOU!!! Actually, I couldn't turn the black ring just using my fingers. However, I noticed that at the front of the ring there is a long slot. along the outer edge. I put the handle of a spoon and pushed. It moved very easily.

THIS WORKED!! My husband couldn't use his grinder for months after accidentally putting that white plastic part in upside down and he declared it dead after only six months of use (and two times putting it on wrong -- pryed it off once). He's one of those super smart engineer types who has a shortage of common sense sometimes. Finally I (the tea drinker) took it upon myself to search for a solution. This is super easy just like everyone says, although it did take me some stabbing with the butter knife until I realized you're rotating THE BLACK OUTER RING and NOT THE WHITE PART THAT IS STUCK. I thought I had to stick the knife down in there to move the white plastic part inside that half circle slit area. WRONG. You use the knife like a lever placing pressure on ONE END of that tiny half circle slit and pushing against the slit and voila -- it will rotate the entire black ring section like a secret door opening and your jaw will drop open and the white plastic part that was unmistakeably jammed for life can now be lifted straight off by a toddler. It's truly THAT easy. PS WE MARKED THE RIGHT SIDE UP WITH A FEW DOTS OF SHARPIE MARKER SO MY GENIUS HUSBAND NEVER DOES THIS AGAIN! Why can't the manufacturer do the same? What a cheap fix! I guess some will run out and buy a new one when they think it's broken for life and they don't want to lose the extra cash. Shame on them! I cannot think of any other reason not to mark this so it's common sense lacking (or rushing and exhausted with two young children) proof.

I removed the bean hopper on the burr grinder to clean it, then screwed it back in and now it doens't work at all.

There's a safe-switch on the hopper. Make sure you screw it down right (not crooked) and it should click as you screw down when you get down to the last turns...

Hmm, I have Capresso Infinity Burr Grinder #560, and I accidentally placed the upper burr back in upside down. Now it is stuck. I do not see the "black section with a long slot" around the blade.

Yes! I had the same issue with putting the burr in upside down and then twisting it an effectively "locking" it in there incorrectly. I tried the "knife" solution that worked for some people here, but it was placing the bean container back on and twisting counter clockwise that did the trick!

So glad I found this thread and didn't give up trying to fix my burr grinder (which we love).

Thanks to jaybayca!

I accidentally placed the upper burr in upside down. Now it is wedged in and I can't get it out. Any suggestions?

I've posted this in a few other places on this site (there are many ways to ask the same question), but try putting the clear bean container back on and untwisting as if to unlock it -- the problem isn't just that we put the upper burr in upside down, but then we locked it into place with the bean container. What do you do when the grinding blade will not come off for cleaning?

Hi
With the bean hopper on, turn the grinder upside down. Rotate the bean hopper to loosen any grounds that might be holding the burr holder. Now remove the bean hopper and try again to remove the holder. Only the outer burr comes off, this way.

Spring loaded ball bearings - does the ball bearing sit on top of the spring or below the spring??

The ball bearing is a check valve. The ball should be in the input side of the water with the spring underneath.

The upper burr stuck upside down!

Yes, this butter knife trick is the way that Capresso customer service recommends. Just to clarify the tip of the butter knife is the only portion inserted...DO NOT shove the entire blade into the grinder. Just the tip in the furthest to the right side of the "smiley face ****" that is on the top of the grinder without the clear plastic hopper. just imagine a birds eye view. Once you have the tip of the butter knife all the way to the right of the "smiley face ****" then just rotate counter-clockwise until it does not go any further. This should have dislodged the top part of the grinding cone and then simply pick it up with your fingers, flip 180 and put it in the correct way.

Cleaned the Solis Maestro grinder and re set it to a fine espresso setting but the grind is coming out very course. What should i do?

Hi Your burr is not locked in. You need to remove the beans from the hopper. Remove the hopper. Remove the burr. Turn the grinder upside down over the trash can. Put the burr back in only make sure that the burr is down. Install the bean hopper and when you turn the bean hopper it should move the burr. Then you can adjust your grind. Make sure that the grinder is running is your going to a finer grind or you could break the grinder. You can turn it to a coarse grind any time.

Oily beans seem to have clogged our coffee grinder up. What can we do?

Rotate the bean hopper counter clockwise until it stops. Lift it off. Remove the outer burr with the 2 wings and clean under the burr. Clean the opening going to the chute for ground coffee(inside where the burr was).
Install the outer burr. Install the bean hopper. Rotate the bean hopper to the French press grind (coarsest) and operate the grinder. This will clean the burrs and the passages. If it starts to clog, repeat the last part to clean the burrs and passage. It must be grinding to go to a finer setting, but you can go to a coarser setting any time. Another thing. Turn the grinder upside down (empty) and rotate the bean hopper back and forth to clean the threads of the adjusting burr..

Cleaning grinding blades

mazzers have 3 springs in grinder body, each one support for upper burr holder. check for them , if it is not the case than consider that the spring could come with coffee. often we see stones and metal parts geting between burrs.
clean it again and look good for 3 springs , if they are in their place, close the burrs to finest than go back for half of circle and grind coffee.

Not Coffee just Hot Water

runner, sounds like you've got a jam up! Remove all the coffee you can If you can, try to remove the burr and clean whatever you find out. Now, turn the unit upside down over the sink to remove everything messy. Then, turn the unit upside down over a newspaper and tap the unit a couple of times to dislodge what may be jamming it. Put it all back and you may be okay. Otherwise, you'll have to dig deeper into the unit to remove the coffee bean 'stuff' that is jamming it. You may even be able to flush it out with warm water. Be sure to air dry everything before reloading with coffee.
