Question about Oster 6330 4-Slice Toaster

Open Question

The button will not stay down on the toaster. I have the toaster taken apart but the button is not mechanical as I expected. The toaster still works if you hold down the button manually but the blue lights (selections) do not work. I'm wondering if the transformer part number S.T XB8226 might be bad? I just do not know how to test or troubleshoot. Our toaster has been good to us and I would like to fix it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron

SOURCE: Russell Hobbs RH2T toaster bread won't stay down w/o hold handle

Hi, most new toaster have a selenoid that hold down the handle while toasting then release when done so a spring bring the toast up. Possible problem with the selenoid, the electronic circuit that controls it or the plate that the selenoid holds. When you lower the handle you close the contacts of the AC line inside the toaster so if the handle is raised there is no power.

Toaster sticks in down position and won't shut off until pushed up. Seems to be gummy in there but I can't figure out how to get to the mechanism to clean it. Any ideas?

The name of the game is to remove the outer cover so you can while the unit is unplugged observe the mechanism and locate the area that is full of gunk and jamming it up. If absolutely no screws anywhere then unit has snap on parts and you have to pull them apart.

It was put together by man - it can be taken apart.

Lever won't stay down. Have removed all screws and could take off top but handle on lever prevents this. How do I remove the end of the lever in order to get the top off to check latching mechanism?

My toaster turned out to have an electromagnet that makes its lever and the toast carriage stay down. It turned out that the problem with my toaster was that it was plugged into a faulty outlet. Unfortunately, I destroyed part of my toaster's darkness mechanism trying to understand its latching mechanism before I realized that it was not made like traditional toasters. So my first recommendation to you: try plugging it into an outlet that you KNOW works.

Go to the Hamiton Beach website to see if your series has been recalled. I have same model, can't get base off and found recall notice looking for help. My series wasn't but yours might be. Good luck, might get a new toaster!

The lever button does not stay down,so the toaster does not come on. Even if I hold the lever button down, the toaster does not come on.The toaster is cleaned on a regulas basis.

My toaster did the same thing. I cleaned the contacts on the mechanical switch with emery cloth and that problem was solved. Now I'm trying to figure out how to stop the breaker points on the mechanical switch from arcing - which I assume caused the problem in the first place.

Toaster latch does not stay down on Cusinart CPT-120 compact two slice toaster

for Cuisinart cpt160: If the latch will not stay down it is because the electromagnet at the base of the toaster, which is supposed to activate when you push the handle down, is burnt out. I pulled my toaster apart and did a test of that mechanism and found that the solenoid was fried (open circuit). There are no replacement parts.

6331 will not stay down

I have the 4-slice oster, but I bet the control mechanism is the same. When you take it apart you will see a small steel bar held by two plastic fingers. When you push the lever down the steel bar moves down and contacts a small square electromagnet. The electromagnet holds the lever down during toasting and releases the lever when done. On mine there was a compressed layer of bread crumbs covering the electromagnet. Cleaned it off and now it works again.

To take the toaster apart, pull the down lever straight out and then unfasten the screws on the bottom base (5 on mine) and pull the top off carefully. There are wires connecting the control face to the base, but they have enough slack to let you separate the top/bottom and access the mechanism.

Toaster will not stay down in toast position

uh, don't think there's a good chance, you could try to send toaster in for repair, but buying a new toaster is probably cheaper.

Bread won't toast

We ran into the same problem today with our toaster. There was never a problem before I cleaned it--not only by sliding out the crumb drawer, but by turning it upside down to dislodge every last crumb. After that, It would not stay down when pushed down.

My husband took the cover off and found that a magnet is what keeps the lever down when the toaster's on, and allows it to go back up when the toasting is done. It's an electro magnet that works only when the toaster is on. It seems that when I turned the unit upside down and rightside up again, crumbs landed on the magnet's contact plates (which are about 1/4" x 1/2") and would not allow the magnet to engage. Because the magnet wouldn't engage, the lever would not stay down, and the toaster shut off. Brush off the magnets, replace the cover and toast away!
