Question about Craftsman 25cc Gas Line Trimmer

358-791010 2 cycle starts bur engine runs so fast...Is there an adjustment? Also, I have no owners manual, that would be very benificial.

There is an idle adjustment screw that adjusts the idle speed of the weed whacker on the carburetor.
Look for the throttle cable, and there should be a screw adjustment in the area where the throttle cable hooks to the carburetor. It will normally adjust with a screwdriver, turn the screw one way and see if it speeds up, if so then adjust the screw the other way to slow the idle speed down.

Chainsaw tune-up


When you buy a chainsaw the carburetor is set to run at sealevel basically. The fun thing about chainsaws is you can go to the top of the mountain and cut firewood. There is a lot of difference in elevation so the carburetor settings you use at your house might not run good at the top of the mountain so it is benificial to know how to quick tune your chainsaw.

You need to set the mixtures for the carburetor. There is usually a rubber grommet on the side of the housing near the carburetor. You will find a Low and High adjustment screw. The default setting for the H and L carburetor jet is usually to turn them in all the way till they stop and back them out a turn and a half. You should start the chainsaw and warm it up untill it will run without choking. Make sure that the air filter is cleaned. Start by turning the low adjustment screw out. You will notice that the rpms should start increasing. keep turning it out until the rpms start to drop then turn it back in a quarter of a turn from where it idled at the fastest rpm. At this point you may need to adjust the idle adjustment till the saw idles at a good speed but not fast enough that the chain turns. You may need to readjust the idle speed so the chain doesn't turn during idle. To set the high adjustment screw will require that you run the saw at max RPM. It may be a good idea to get someone to hold the saw so the bar doesn't hit anything while you're doing this. Hold the throttle trigger all the way down and then turn the high adjustment screw in and out until you find maximum rpm. Turn the screw back in a quarter turn. Your saw is now tuned for the elevation you're currently at.

Choke adjustment

Motorbike stuck on high revs


Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Throttle cables improperly adjusted or pinched.
2. Idle adjusting screw needs to be backed off.
4. Air fuel mixture adjusted too lean start with 2 full turns.
5. Intake system air leak.
6. Fast idle choke ramp is not releasing.
7. Broken throttle return spring.
8. Damaged diaphragm or slide.
9. Faulty MAP, TPS, ATS, O2, sensors or wiring/connector

What is the high altitude adjustment required by the manual?


the high speed adjustment needs to be richened up to compensate for the lean air mixture at high altitude. it can run but will run fast and may damage the unit because it is lean. the high speed adjustment is the one marked H or the screw farthest from the engine. turn it counter clockwise while running at full speed until it runs at the correct RPM. any small engine repair center should be able to do this for you and keep you from causing irreparable damage

Start at 1.5 CCW form lightly seated then tune for performance like this:

CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.

There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full – may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too.

I think your starting procedure may be the cause of flooding. Flooded is the #1 cause of hard starts in 2-cycle engines. Read carefully the recommended start in your manual. most miss the second note. It should be similar to this (read 3, read it again):
Warm start in the manual says 1/2 choke BS. Close choke, (sets fast idle) open choke, pull rope.
Start Procedure
Cold:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws); pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls; no more than 4).
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts (usually first pull).
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws) – Do not pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open) choke, pull starter until it starts (usually first pull).

Carbureted models have a fast idle cam on the throttle,It is a screw that sets against a movable part,called the cam,when the engine heats up,the cam will drop upon tapping the gas pedal.Set the carb,while the engine is cold,by tapping the gas pedal,then adjust the fast idle cam screw by turning it in,with the engine running.Start out by turning the screw in a full turn before starting engine so it will run,then adjust the screw as the engine runs.

Hard starting after rebuild


My name is Dennis and I also have the model you are having difficulty with and I can only repeat the instructions from the owners manual (with personal comments) because they have always served me adequately I hope that will serve your needs.
IDLE ADJUSTMENTS:
There are three adjustment screws on the carburetor labeled
H (for High speed MIXTURE)
L (for low speed MIXTURE)
T (for idle SPEED SETTING)
They are located just above the primer bulb. If your saw floods so soon in the starting process the idle mixture setting can be set too rich and the speed may be set too slow. Remember the chain will not move when the idle speed is set correctly with a WARM ENGINE!
Adjust the idle speed to just below chain movement WITH A WARM ENGINE this is just below the activation RPM of the centrifugal clutch. Let the engine run at a higher speed than idle until it is warm -- 3 min -- you may have to keep goosing it until then.
Please don't exceed the limits of the plastic limiters when making adjustments.
If you haven't adjusted the mixture screws you may just have to adjust the idle speed and that can start my turning that screw all the way in to the stop and then back out 4-1/2 turns for a good place to start. FAST IDLE -- Adjust the speed until the engine runs with out the chain moving. Adjust clockwise to increase speed. C clockwise to decrease engine speed.
Accelerate the engine and if it stumbles and makes too much smoke it's too rich turn the
LOW SPEED MIXTURE (in) clockwise in 1/16 a turn increments NO MORE at a time because a two cycle needs to run at a setting for a short time to really prove the setting. don’t run it wide open to warm it up but it should be at a fast idle. Nothing you do will be proven correct until the engine is warm.
