If you downgraded from Vista ...now you need a new set of drivers for it ...suitable for windows XP...so ..go to Manufacturer's site ..by seaching to googl e...the name of the manufacturer+support
there choose support ..and downloads..than select your product in the list and the operation system you use..(XP in our case.).This will lead you to the downloads for your laptop ...and you will have to download them all..cause I guess not just the driver for sound is missing but others as well..but this one was obvious and you notice its lack ..
