Hi,

The symptoms you are describing indicate the coil on the gas valve is breaking down. The coils are what open and keep the gas valve open to allow the flame burn.

As they age they can breakdown and work when cold or first used then as they heat up the wire breaks down inside and turns the valve off, the system continues to try and relight but with the bad coil it does not.

It may work again after the machine sets idle for a long period of time but will fail again when it gets warm.

The coil kit is about $20.00, the picture and part number is below. If you need instructions beyond what is supplied with the kit let me know and I can help install it.

The flame sensor, ignitor, and coils all are wired together in a complicated circuit so that the coils will not operate untill the ignitor is out of the circuit and is screaming hot. If the ignitor is open or bad the coils will not operate because the ignitor becomes like a thermocouple when screaming hot. So if the ignitor is working and the flame sensor is working properly AND the dryer will work some and then quit, I would suggest to you that the coils are aged and when they get aged they tend to fade and die when used once or twice. It is an aggravating thing to diagnose. Replace the solenoid coils and rock on dude!

Have you replaced the thermocouple? Have you cleaned the Pilot? Do you have a strong pilot flame and is it touching the thermocouple? Sometimes if you don't have a good strong pilot is that when you turn the main gas on it pulls the pilot flame away from the thermocouple and cools it off so it drops the signal. Check the gas pressure should have 10 to 11 "WC of manifold pressure.
And you could have a bad gas valve. Hope this helps.

AFTER LIGHTING MY RICHMOND 6G40-36F1 WATER HEATER IT LIGHT FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THE FLAME AND THE PILOT LIGHT GOES OUT. WHAT CAUSE THIS TO HAPPEN?

There is air in the gas line. The best way to get the air out, is with the gas on, loosen the nut that attaches to the gas valve and make sure you can smell a little gas, then reattach the gas line, making sure everything is tight, and then relight the pilot making sure to hold the pilot light button down for at least 1 minute. Sears kenmore gas dryer 417.92052101does not stay lit.

Watch the burner assembly, shortly after starting the dryer the ignitor should begin to glow. If it glows for several seconds (up to 15 seconds) and then goes out, then the problem is probably the solenoids (coils). If the ignitor glows and stays on, then the problem is usually the flame sensor.

Kenmore no flame

Is this the scenario? It lights for a few cycles or maybe not at all. The ignitor glows and goes out but no flame. Comes back on then does the same thing. If so it could be failing coils (those two black cylinders on top of the gas valve assembly). There's a kit that includes both and it's a fairly simple job.
