Question about Sony XPLOD CDX-GT200 CD Player
It sounds like you dont have the stereo wired in correctly...you will have 2x +12v inputs on the rear of the stereo.1 red and 1 yellow.the yellow wire supply's power to the illumination part of the stereos internals.and the red wire supplies +12v power to the rest of the stereo.so if you just have the red wire connected, you will have all functions powered except the illumination, so hence like you describe, your unit powers up and seems to work but no backlit display or buttons that should light up dont...I hope this helps? Just check you have both the yellow and red wires connected.it is also possible to have both the red and yellow from the dash to connect just to the yellow on the rear of the stereo to create a permanant live. So you can still have the stereo on even if the vehicle is turned off and keys not in the ignition...happy motoring!

One idea that comes to mind is,if I remmeber correctly, that model has a removeable faceplate, try this, remove the faceplate, take some denatured alcohol on a Q-tip,clean the electric contacts on the back of the faceplate and also on the front of the deck where they mate together repeatedly for about 4 to 6 times letting them dry between each time that you swab them clean, then replace the faceplate onto the deck being sure that you are seatting the faceplate completely and properly.
This has worked for me sometimes and sometimes not, its worth a try.
Good Luck !
