Hello. Unplug it and let it sit for 72 hours. That will insure that all of the oil has flowed back into the compressor. Joe

My refrigerator wont work after laying it down to move it. What should I do?

I've done that before and there's no hope for it. Once you laid it down the freon got a air pocket in the compressor and it will no longer work. Guy from sears told me that laying them down ruins them.

We moved a side by side refrigerator to a different location(from the house to the garage) and the tempterature on the refrigerator side is staying about 48.I have lower the thermostate. Any suggestio

If you moved it, hopefully it was not laid down and remained upright as this can damage compressor. If you were careful and it did not get radically tilted down, then you may want to unplug for a hour or so and see if it clears up. Most often when this happens it is defrosting issue, as in, build up of ice blocking fan operation. Unplugging will melt blockage and help narrow problem down.

You may have laid refrigerator down during the move causing oil to migrate to the evaporator. If this has happened leave refrigerator unplugged for about twelve hours so the oil can slowly seep back down to the compressor. Trying to speed this process up will slow you down and may cause the compressor overload to fail. Once the compressor is ready to start cooling you can leave refrigerator plugged in, Thanks Sea Breeze

if while moving it , you laid it on its side, it collected air in the lines, having it unplugged is a good idea, normally 24 hours is enough for the air to settle,, try it again after that time,

Whent it was moved to my new house, it was laid down for awhile, not won't get cold?

Hello. When a fridge is laid on side the fluids in it flow away from necessary areas. Always stand the fridge upright for at least 48 hours before plugging it in. My recommendation is to unplug it and let it sit for 48 hours and then plug it in again. regards, Joe

Will not get cold

unplug unit and let sit overnight, then try it again in the morning, if you moved the unit or laid it on its side all the compressor oil needs to settle back down

Moved our GE monogram to new house; was laid on side; now plugged in the motor does not kick on...all lights come on; worked fine before

Oooh -Refrigerators do NOT like laying down.
If you have done this - leave upright - unplugged for at least 4 hours before restarting.

If it has had this - it is possible the compressor may be offcentre inside it's black casing.
Try knocking it fairly hard once or twice, then plugging in again.
If this does not cause life to return, then it needs a serious look at to determine if it is getting power to it, if the control board is doing the right thing, and if the thermostats are set right.

Try resetting the thermostats really low to start with - and see if it wants to try cooling.

When you lay a refrigerator on its side oil from the compressor can seep out into the tubing and cause a restriction in the sealed system. This will cause only a small amount of cooling to occur and needs a licensed technician to fix it.

The defrost timer will turn off the compressor and its cooling fan. At the same time it turns on the defrost heater, and usually leaves the freezer fan running. Defrost can take half an hour, easy. As soon as the defrost thermostat is satisfied, the defrost heater is supposed to turn off, and the compressor may come back on. The defrost timer is about the size of a cell phone, with about five wires going to it in a plug. It has a small dial on it that only goes one way. You can mark it and wait a half hour to see if it moves.

Cooling

if you have laid the fridge down as you moved it make sure that it sits upright for at least 15 mins before you turn it on again (this alowes the oil in the compressor to level back into the sump)

make sure that everything is running in it - the compressor - any fans and that all airflows are ok.

If all is working then it is a refrigeration problem. low gas, blocked pipes or filter. This will have to be looked at by a refrigeration mechanic
