Question about Whirlpool LSR5102LQ Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Cold Water My machine will not put out cold water. Hot water works fine. Unscrewed the line and checked and the screen is not clogged. Turned on the water and the water flows fine. I heard there is a valve right behind the inlet, was wondering if maybe it could have gone bad or is there another problem?

Yes, you may have a burned out solenoid(the coil that makes the valve open and close).
If you have a multimeter, you can check for both voltage at the coil and resistance.
Resistance should be anywhere from 60 to 80+ ohms.

No cold water enters tub. Everything gets washed hot no matttter what the setting.

You water line filters may be stopped up. This happened to me once and I unscrewed the two hoses next to the machine and looked. There was a filter that I could remove, made of hard plastic. I took the filters out of each hose and screwed the hoses back on the machine, without the filters. It worked for years. The other thing that I have done is I once had a machine I couldn't get unclogged and the line didn't work for my cold water so I turned off my hot water and I took the hot water hose and put it to the cold water tap. My cold water came into the machine by the hot water hose. I used it for years afterwards. I just had to wash everything in cold water.

When turned to "cold" the

Rinse is always cold only on most machines. Why? Because rinse with hot water causes wrinkles. You have a bad cold water solenoid or fouled cold water valve innards from lime and such OR a clogged water valve inlet screen on the cold water side. Remove the cold water hose and check for blocked screen.

Kenmore elite washing machine, cold water will not fill. hot water works fine.

If your machine has 2 water hoses connected check to see if both water valves are connected and switched on, if so the you may have a faulty cold water valve. If you have only 1 water hose then the cold water valve on the twin or triple valve is faulty. You can change these easily buy removing the top panel and removing the valve, usually only 2 screws. Hope this helps.

I can't get the cold water to fill the tub/rinse. the hot works.

Your problem is either a clogged COLD fill valve or a bad water fill valve. Turn the water off. Remove the COLD hose from the WASHER. Check the filter screen inside the valve for sediment. If you find sediment, remove the screen and clean it. Replace the screen and turn the water back on. If you do not find sediment on the screen, replace the water valve.

No cold water, only hot

The cold water inlet line is either clogged (it has a filter screen in it) or the cold-water solenoid valve is malfunctioning.

Remove cold water line, check for obstruction -- if no success, inspect electrical connections on solenoid valve (where the cold water line attaches to the back of the machine). If valve is getting current, take it apart and clean it. If that doesn't work, replace the solenoid valve.

No cold water to my Maytag Top loading washer

Pull the washer out from the wall and disconnect the water lines from the washer. Check to see if a build-up of minerals is clogging the screen on the cold water line where it enters the washing machine.

Sounds like you have a bad fill valve on the cold water side. If your hoses are not clogged, then remove the hose and check the cold water inlet going into the machine for clogs. There is a screen that can trap mineral deposits and/or rust. If you have well water or hard water, they can become clogged easily. Sometimes you can clean them out and they will work just fine. Most of the time, however, you will need to replace the fill valve. Make sure you unplug the machine and turn the water off. The valves are electronically controlled. I hope this helps.
