SOURCE: am trying to open pool, motor hums but will not run

Sounds like COULD BE something (a small stone or twig) jammed in the impeller. See if you can spin it using a long screwdriver, if it moves, it is not jammed. If it spins, I hate to say it might be the motor is gone.

Testimonial: "good response, but have a follow up question regarding the answer I received - how can I pursue? thanks!"

You could also have a bad starter capacitor, and that's a cheap fix. If you end up getting a new or used pump to replace it try to get the same kind so you can use some of the old pump for parts in the future.

My pool motor does not turn when I turn it on it just makes a humming sound. Can it be fixed ? Century LASAR Pool/Spa motor model # SD-20-2N11CD

Probably the capacitor is bad.
It can be replaced.
Do not let motor hum, because motor is getting hot and will burn up pretty quick, or trip the reset.
Call pool company.

Waterway pool pump is humming but fan is not turning

Shorted motor windings, can you move the turbine when turned on or does it feel like it is being held in place. WARNING!!! do not try with your hand, use a tool. Possible capacitor, but I would suspect motor to turn slowly.

I have a A O Smith SN 1152 pool pump. The motor just hums when the switch is turned on. The pump is eight years old and I have had no problems until now.

Remove the 4 fasteners that hold the pump head onto the motor and try to turn the motor shaft by hand. If it turns freely, apply power and see what happens. If it turns Ok, then your problem is the pump head not the motor. If the motor does not turn by hand then it needs to be replaced. If it turns by hand but not when power is applied, you may get away with replacing the bearing in it.

Motor was humming move contacts worked for few days turning on and off.The motor will not hum or come on. I think it is the start cap.

MOTOR SHOWN IN PICTURE HAS A RUN CAP.IT HAS NO START CAP(ONLY 2 SPEED DO) WIRES AND TERMINALS MUST BE CLEAN , USE SAND PAPER AND CLEAN THEM UP. LOOK AT THE WIRES IN THE BACK OF THE MOTOR ALSO. USE A VOLT METER TO CHECK FOR POWER SEARCH YOUR ZIP CODE FOR YOUR LOCAL POOL PUMP MOTOR REPAIR GUY WITH FREE TESTING. BRING THE CAP IN FOR TESTING.. GOOD LUCK

Pump hums when switched on but does not work more than 20 seconds

hi i had the same problem with my booster pump motor it hum but did not turn. to make a long story short see if there is a metal cap on the back of your motor if there is pry it off and you should get to see the shaft turn the shaft with a screwdriver if it has a notch in it or if it don't turn the shaft anyway you can and make sure it turns easy. my shaft was tight as hell but i got it to turn and it started right up again and i had no problem. the hum means it is stuck and it shuts off because the breaker is tripping and after a few seconds it will click back on again, hope this helps
