Question about Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) Console
Wont play call of duty due to an area that looks scratched but has been in the ps3 since i got it so does the ps3 it self scratch discs that are constantly used
Check to see if there are any scratches on the disc. Scratches or marks on discs will render game discs unplayable or will freeze the game and will often show a message stating “Disc Read Error” or something to that effect. Best remedy for starters, is to clean the discs and make sure there are no scratches or marks left on the play-side of the discs.
The main problem with PS3 discs is that they are hard coated on the play surface which normally helps prevent scratches occurring to them but if they do get scratched, they can be badly scratched. PS3 discs have their data stored very near the play surface so any deep scratches can sometimes be un-repairable. Not many places can repair PS3 discs at all. The site below can depending on the severity of the scratch.
Most Game Discs, DVD’s and CD’s can be fixed quite easily. Some home remedies may help with very light scratches on some of these discs but a professional disc repair service is usually required to repair any discs with more than very light marks or scratches. Discs can normally be repaired back to a virtually new condition.
For further help on disc repairs, visit:
www.discREPAIR.ie Get Scratched Discs Repaired Back to "As Good As New Condition".
Check the “More Info” & “FAQ” Sections for further details on PS3 disc repairs and related matters.
If you tried some home remedies and they have not worked, try sending the disc off for repair. Contact the site above for advice on repair and shipping.
Hope this Helps!!!

SOURCE: PS2 Slim Line Problem
The problem is with the disc drive itself. Most common problem is the give in the spindle starts to go and gets to be to much and you get floating of the disc while in play. If the system is still in waranty I would sudgest contacting the MFG and getting it fixed or replaced. If not in waranty then your only other choice is to find another system for cheap and rape it for parts and replace the drive.

Please check the region code on the BD or DVD. It should match the region code set in the system. Otherwise the disc will not play
