Has it ever worked? Are you going wireless or with a cable? If wireless, make sure your network name and password are correct.

FOR WIRELESS USERS: What I did was go on my router in Network Sharing menu, in Control Panel. Find out all my information for the router. That is IP, subnet, primary and secondary yada yada.. Then enter everything manually on ps3 Network Connection Settings. After that it started finding IP but still wouldn't connect to the internet. So turn off the console. I enabled media sharing while reading stuff on this page, but the first time I had this problem I didn't do this, no clue if it helped. Turned back on the ps3, auto-connect gets DNS error, but now I go back to the network settings and run Easy install and Scan for my connection. Found IP, found Connection and worked! Not sure which piece of that is helpful, but this is the second time it has happened and the second time I got it working in a similar way.

Turn off PS3 restart internet if it is wireless it should work but if you are plugged in the DNS needs to be reset if it was on you home computer.

Download the new firmware 2.42 - this will fix your problems.
if it;s not connected to the internet you will need a USB memory stick - follow the instructions here : http://www.us.playstation.com/ps3/about/systemupdate

I posted the same thing on a different thread with the same issue..

You may need to manually configure your PS3 connection on the console. Let's see.. I can suggest to first go to your Settings Menu -> Network Settings -> Choose:"Settings and Connection Status List" this will display a pretty detailed information about your connection to your local gateway (router).. Check specifically for Primary and Secondary DNS. In my experience, using the PS3's auto setup for the connection seems to enter the default gateway's ip (labeled "Default Router" on PS3 Status Screen) in place of the real DNS entries..

Question
: Sooo how do you check your primary/secondary DNS for your network? Answer: On your PC, open a web browser and enter your default gateway ip into the browser.. log into your router (assistance can be found in your router manual or by calling your router manufacture). You should see a status page of sorts that displays your ISP's primary/secondary DNS entries.. Simply transfer those two IPs to your PS3 manually to correct the DNS issue. To manually configure your Network settings check with the PS3 manual/Support Site/ Call Sony

Hopefully that should resolve your issue!

I am getting a dns error on ps3 80710102 how do I fix this

This DNS error is a simple fix. Simply go to your Internet Connection Settings and change the DNS part of it to Manual. Then for the DNS enter one of these two DNS's 208.67.222.222 and/or 208.67.220.220

this should fix your DNS error!

Hopefully this information helps to solve your problem!

How do i solve the DNS error 80710102

It seems like the DNS error is generally caused by problems on your ISP's end of the network, but that doesn't mean you can't have a crack at fixing it yourself.

Under your network connection settings try changing the DNS servers to the following numbers (they're free by the way)

Primary DNS 208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS 208.67.220.220

Also, try disabling media server connection as well. These simple steps should, in 90% of cases, fix the problem.

I've written a more in-depth guide to the causes of, and solutions to the DNS error- check it out here http://searchwarp.com/swa641197-Ps3-Dns-Error-80710102-Troubleshooting.htm

What is a dns error and how do i fix it

DNS error occurs when your internet connection is fluctuating and your PS3 console was unable to detect an active internet connection. This is not a problem with the PS3 System as it much more of your ISP or internet service provider which is disconnecting.

My son has a DNS error on his PS3 and cant get onto the internet....can you help a technophobe

this has helped me in the past.. i hope it helps you out

Been troubled lately by that pesky DNS error? Notice that your PS3 can still browse the net, but not log in? Happen to be a Roadrunner customer? Happen to have any other ISP with a crummy DNS server? Well then read on...

The main issue turns out to be a Roadrunner (or any other ISP's) DNS problem. The fix is simple. When configuring your PS3 network (regardless of wired or wireless), use the manual option. If you use DHCP, leave address resolution at automatic BUT CHANGE THE DNS SERVER ENTRY TO MANUAL.

I replaced the Roadrunner (or any other ISP's) DNS entries with addresses from the Open DNS project which is a free, secure DNS server that anyone can use. It's safe, easy, and works.

The DNS addresses are:

208.67.222.222 or/and 208.67.220.220

Once replaced, you should have no problem logging in.

PS3

The way this was resolved for me (and I know someone else mentioned it in an other post here), was to enter the DNS server addresses manually in the PS3 network settings AND use tetertiary DNS server from my ISP as either the primary or the secondary DNS server. Voila... I am upgrading my PS3 software as I write this.... ..btw, this also fixed the similar problem I had with my PSP..
