Question about Philips GoGear SA2825/37 MP3 Player

Hi, my philips sa28xx player isnt charging even thoug it's recognized by my computer and I have tried updating and repair with the device manager several times.

I have left it connected to my computer overnight but the player didnt charge. I have tried all my usb ports with different cables as well as on other computers with various cables. Turning of my laptop and removing the battery did not fix the problem.

The reason for why I'm not throwing it away is it has sometimes in the past refused to charge from time to time but a day or two later it works just fine. From this I have learnt that it will only charge men the battery indicator moves from empty to full and back again untill full. When the player is first connected to an usb port the charging indicator in the screen moves once in the same manner as when it's charging but then it will not start over. However this initial movement of the battery indicator seems to actually charge the device since reconnecting it have brought the battery level from stone dead do at least giving me the blinking battery indicating no battery as described in the last note page 8 in the manual.

Thanks, I will retry charging over a longer time since I have only tried that once.

Hi.

This player charging time is quite long. Charge for at least 4 hours. Most common cause for this problem is drained rechargeable battery.

Since you connect this player through USB cable, test using a different USB cable, and test the player on different USB ports.

Turn off the computer, and remove computer main battery if the computer is a laptop. This will drain power completey and can fix USB problems on computer.

If that does not fix the problem, then the battery in the player may be faulty. In that case open the battery compartment and replace the battery.

Here a manual.

Regards.

My philips gogear vibe 8gb is brand new. I charged it and put on music and it was fine for an hour. But now it freezes on the 99% updated screen. I reseted it and i can still usb connect it but after it...

Firstly, I'd suggest that you do a soft reset of your player. You will find the reset button next to the 'power on' button on the side of the player. Please hold the Reset button using a pen tip or other sharp object for 10 seconds. Now turn it on.

If that doesn't work, you can format the player. Provided its recognized by the computer. Contents may be removed by using this function. So make sure to back up your contents. Here is how to do this:

Connect your GoGear player to your PC. On your computer desktop, double-click "My computer". Double-click on the MP3 player's icon. Right-click on the Internal Storage icon and then select "Format". Disconnect it once the format is complete.

If that doesn't work, you can repair the player. To repair it you must have the software that came with the player or you can download it from the Philips suppot site. WWW.philips.com/support/. Players that start with SA1xxxx uses Device manager and the Players that start with SA2xxx uses Philips Songbird.

Here is how to Repair your GoGear MP3 player using Device Manager:

Launch Device Manager and click the Tool menu and select "Repair my Philips GoGear", then follow the instructions to perform the repair process.

Here is how to Repair your GoGear MP3 player using Philips Songbird:

Launch Songbird and then connect your player to your computer. Select "Repair my Philips GoGear" under the "Tools" menu. Follow the instructions given by the pop-up windows to perform the repair process.

*Contents may be removed by using repair and format functions. So make sure to back up your contents.

Hope this helps.
Cheers..

My player gets stuck and shuts down only after a day..!!

Try doing a repair in the Philips Device Manager, but it may not be enough to rid the player of a virus. Definitely worth a shot, though.

Mp3 wont charge

There is a lock on the side - unlock it and try charging again.
Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear
Open the Philips Device Manager (Start à All Programs à Philips Digital Audio Player à SAXXX à Philips Device Manager) and click on the “Repair” tab. Then click on the “Repair” button to start the repair process. Most of the time, when your player is in that state, the Device Manager will not recognize that your GoGear is plugged in. If this is the case: Disconnect the player from the PC, and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Hold in the volume + button on the mp3 player, and reconnect the player to your pc while holding in the volume + button. Continue holding the volume + for 10-15 seconds until a "Found New Hardware Wizard" pops up. It should recover your device if there isn't anything internally wrong with the player. Warning: this procedure will result in your songs being erased off the player, so they will have to be reloaded.

Philips GoGear Firmware Upgrade
You need to get the latest firmware upgrade from the Philips website:
1. Go to www.philips.com/support
2. Enter your country/language
3. Enter your model # SA6045 or whatever
4. Click on the link for your exact model # (the one w/o the "B" in it)
5. Click on "Software & Drivers"
6. Download the updated "Device/Firmware Manager"
7. Once installed, open the Philips Device Manager
8. Click on the "Update" tab, then the "Update" button (with your mp3 player connected to the computer, of course)
9. Your Mp3 players firmware will update automatically
If you do not have the latest version of the Philips Device Manager installed (the latest is the version from the Philips website), then clicking the "Update" button will give you a false positive saying "The firmware on your device is already up to date."

Code 10 errors can be resolved by completely uninstalling the Philips Device Manager and other software that came with the GoGear installation CD, and then reinstalling the clean version of the software from the Philips website.  Then running a Repair. The version of the Device Manager that is on the installation CD is not the same version as the one from the website.
Recovery Mode for Philips' GoGear
Open the Philips Device Manager and click on the “Repair” tab.  Then click on the “Repair” button to start the repair process.  Most of the time, when your player is in that state, the Device Manager will not recognize that your GoGear is plugged in.  If this is the case: Disconnect the player from the PC, and make sure the mp3 player is turned off. Device manager wont detect my gogear HDD1630/17 even though i recently updated the software and driver, also my device is frozen on "Please connect player to pc". I can't even get it back to the menu...

I was experiencing this similar problem, and from my research so were alot of other people, what finally worked for me was this:

  • Update all the software on your computer via Phillips site
  • Open the Philips Device Manager
  • With the device connected and the 'connected to pc' screen showing on the GoGear, do a 'soft reset' by holding the Power Off + Volume Up buttons for a few seconds
  • As soon as the device restarts itself, hold the Volume Down button, the computer should now recognize the GoGear
  • Follow the onscreen directions to Repair the device
  • Thank the intarwebs.

Iniatializing keeps flashing on and off

Uninstall the existing Device Manager.
Download the latest Device Manager software for this device from www.p4c.philips.com and install this.

Repair the player using the updated software.

If the problem still persists, try the update once more.

If this still doesn't work, then the main PCB is faulty and will have to be replaced.

If the repair does work, the player briefly shows a message on screen when restarted, then shuts down again.

You then need to restart the player again and it shows Updating, and then goes to the main menu.

Philips HDD1630 MP3 Player about 2 years old, no excessive use, won't charge any more or be seen by computer. Only shows low battery on screen then dies. I am a little technically incline, can anyone tell...

You may have to change the battery, but try Reset, Repair, and Update (firmware upgrade) first. Also, there is an FAQ on the Philips website for the computer does not recognize device issue (but only follow it AFTER you have tried reset, repair, and update).

Open Philips Device Manager and try repairing the device. [connect your GoGear to the computer, open Philips Device Manager (Start-->All Programs-->Philips), and click on the repair tab. Now, disconnect your GoGear from computer. Turn the GoGear off if it is not already. Press and hold the volume + key and connect the GoGear to the computer (while still pressing the volume +). A window will pop up saying a repair is being performed. now you can let go of the Volume + button. The repair will get your device working normally again. WARNING: the repair process will delete any music/other media file from your GoGear.]

After repair, perform a firmware upgrade ("Update" tab in Philips Device Mgr while GoGear is connected to computer - see Philips website for more details)

Worst case scenario - Even rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charging cycles. The battery for the SA178 is an LI-Polymer 300mAh 12-hr battery. Philips won't fix it for you, but you might want to find a local repair service.
