Problem for Eclipse 5340

I purchased a 10 year old Eclipse 5340 cd player from a cat on ebay and failed to ask if the ESN had been activated or if he was going to send with it the 'key c.d.' It is locked and I would rather not have to send it off to an authorized Eclipse repair center and pay $25 to have it unlocked. Do you have any alternatives to this process and could you please share this knowledge with me.
