you can fix it by using System Utilities such as Tuneup Utilities but i recommend you to format it since the applications make only slight correction and cannot go indepth if your C drive has bad sectors when the system is running.. Good luck...

As you use your hard drive, it can develop bad sectors. Bad sectors slow down hard disk performance and sometimes make data writing (such as file saving) difficult, or even impossible. The Error Checking utility scans the hard drive for bad sectors, and scans for file system errors to see whether certain files or folders are misplaced. If you use your computer daily, you should run this utility once a week to help prevent data loss.

    1. Close all open files.
    2. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
    3. In the My Computer window, right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.
    4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
    5. Click the Check Now button.
    6. In the Check Disk dialog box (called Error-checking in Windows 7), select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start.

5 ways to speed up your computer

By following a few simple guidelines, you can maintain your computer and keep it running smoothly. This article discusses how to use the tools available in Windows 7, Vista, and XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) to more efficiently maintain your computer and safeguard your privacy when you're online.

    1. Free up disk spaceThe Disk Cleanup tool helps you free up space on your hard disk to improve the performance of your computer. The tool identifies files that you can safely delete, and then enables you to choose whether you want to delete some or all of the identified files.
    Use Disk Cleanup to:
    • Remove temporary Internet files.
    • Remove downloaded program files (such as Microsoft ActiveX controls and Java applets).
    • Empty the Recycle Bin.
    • Remove Windows temporary files such as error reports.
    • Remove optional Windows components that you don't use.
    • Remove installed programs that you no longer use.
    • Remove unused restore points and shadow copies from System Restore.
Tip: Typically, temporary Internet files take the most amount of space because the browser caches each page you visit for faster access later.

    2. Speed up access to dataDisk fragmentation slows the overall performance of your system. When files are fragmented, the computer must search the hard disk when the file is opened to piece it back together. The response time can be significantly longer.
Disk Defragmenter is a Windows utility that consolidates fragmented files and folders on your computer's hard disk so that each occupies a single space on the disk. With your files stored neatly end-to-end, without fragmentation, reading and writing to the disk speeds up.
    When to run Disk Defragmenter
In addition to running Disk Defragmenter at regular intervals—monthly is optimal—there are other times you should run it too, such as when:
    • You add a large number of files.
    • Your free disk space totals 15 percent or less.
    • You install new programs or a new version of Windows.

    3. Detect and repair disk errorsIn addition to running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragmenter to optimize the performance of your computer, you can check the integrity of the files stored on your hard disk by running the Error Checking utility.
    Run the Error Checking utility:
    1. Close all open files.
    2. Click Start, and then click My Computer.
    3. In the My Computer window, right-click the hard disk you want to search for bad sectors, and then click Properties.
    4. In the Properties dialog box, click the Tools tab.
    5. Click the Check Now button.
    6. In the Check Disk dialog box (called Error-checking in Windows 7), select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors check box, and then click Start
    7. If bad sectors are found, choose to fix them.
Tip: Only select the "Automatically fix file system errors" check box if you think that your disk contains bad sectors.

    4. Protect your computer against spywareSpyware collects personal information without letting you know and without asking for permission. From the Web sites you visit to usernames and passwords, spyware can put you and your confidential information at risk. In addition to privacy concerns, spyware can hamper your computer's performance. To combat spyware, you might want to consider using Microsoft Windows Defender, which is included in Windows 7 and Windows Vista, and is available as a free download for Microsoft XP SP2. Alternatively, there are other free anti-spyware software programs available.

    5. Learn all about ReadyBoostIf you're using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you can use ReadyBoost to speed up your system. A new concept in adding memory to a system, it allows you to use non-volatile flash memory—like a USB flash drive or a memory card—to improve performance without having to add additional memory.

Wd passport have bad sectors. i want to remove it or fix it

Assuming that the disk is viewable by the windows, you can scan, try to recover the data and mark the bad sectors with this procedure. Plug in the hard disk at the system. Open "my computer" to examine the letter that this hard disk take rom the system (g: for example). Hit start and at the run field type cmd. A new black window will appear. Type on this window chkdsk g:/f/r/x (assuming that your hard disk has the drive letter g, otherwise replace g with the proper letter) and hit the enter key.The system will do the rest in a 5 step scanning procedure. This may take long time depending on the hard disk's size and the possible data on the disk.
This is the easiest way for scanning and marking bad sectors without using external software.

My hard disk ST3120022A is detected by motherboard but it does not make me more nothing. ps: bad sectors has 12 at the beginning sectors of the hard disk.

The "table-of-contents" of the files on the disk-drive are usually written in the first few sectors. If those sectors are "bad", your files will be inaccessible.

It's time to buy a new disk-drive, and reinstall Windows.

My computer HDD have bad sactors please help to remove this on

When a hard disk has bad sectors, these sectors can be fixed by running check disk. This is a temporary fix as the hard disk is nearly worn out and it will get more bad sectors and evenually the hard disk will fail completely.
Bad sectors occur when the magnetic oxide on the disk platters is worn out and data cannot be written or read from these sectors.
To run check disk click Start - My Computer - right click on C Drive and click on Properties - click on Tools tab - then Check Now in Error Checking
I suggest once this has been done, you back up your data and purchase a new hard disk ready to install Windows etc. when the hard disk fails completely. You may want to install a new hard drive before the old hard drive fails completely.

Hp invent with windows xp pro after restoring to an earlier date says windows cannot start driver corruppted?Did system Diagnostics hard disk test failed test 2 (Comprehensive)...Error: Read Failure

Restoring to an eariler date cannot fix this problem.
If the hard disk diagnostics failed, this could indicate the hard drive is about to fail. The hard disk platter/s most likely has some bad clusters and if any files are located on these bad clusters then you would get a read failure. The number of bad clusters will increase and cause further problems.
Run chkdsk to lock out these bad clusters but this is a temperoary solution and the computer may not be able to relocate the data from the bad sectors to a good sectors.
The fix is to backup your data as soon as possible, then replace the hard drive with a new hard drive and re-install Windows and the Compaq's device drivers.
